Breitling Flyer Captures Featured Allowance
Juvenile Turf Season to Kick Off Friday

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Breitling Flyer overcame early trouble to score a late-running victory in Sunday’s featured seventh-race allowance at Gulfstream Park.

The 3-year-old son of Ghostzapper, who is trained by Leo Azpurua Jr. for Rontos Racing Stable, notched his first victory on turf under a patient ride by Ramsey Zimmerman.

“I got squeezed a bit at the start, but that didn’t bother me too much because they seemed to be sending too hard,” said Zimmerman. “I eased to the inside and got a dream trip, came out of there turning for home and had enough to get on with it.”

Breitling Flyer ($15.60) scored by two lengths after rallying widest of all through the stretch run, completing the five furlongs on turf in 56.19 seconds. Dedicated to Bob, who set the pace under Luca Panici, held second, a length ahead of Statutorial.

“This horse has been in some good races. He’s really getting it together,” Zimmerman said.

Following Breitling Flyer’s victory in the seventh, there was just one live Rainbow 6 ticket heading into the last race. Favored Becky’s Kitten could have broken the Rainbow 6 jackpot for one lucky ticketholder with a victory, but he finished third.

Thus, multiple tickets with five of the six winners in the multi-race wager were each worth $2,017.96.

Juvenile Turf Season to Kick Off Friday

A field of 10 fillies (and two main-track only entries) was entered Sunday in Gulfstream’s first turf race of the year for 2-year-olds on Friday’s program. Carded as the sixth race, the $48,000 maiden special weight event is scheduled to be run at five furlongs.

Jersey Life, bred and owned by trainer Wesley Ward and Goodfellas star Joe Pesci, is set to make her turf debut in her second career start. The daughter of Bring the Heat set the early pace before faltering in her recent debut, won by Dekabrist in the 4 ½-furlong track-record time of 51.31 seconds. Jersey’s Life’s dam, Little Miss Julien was saddled by Ward for a pair of turf victories at five furlongs in 2010.

Who’s Hot: Edgard Zayas rode back-to-back winners with Haywired ($3.40) in the fourth and Silver Armor ($22.60) in the fifth. Abdiel Jaen scored a double with Roman’s Avenue ($5) in the second and It’s Free ($54.80) in the sixth.
