Gulfstream Today: Florida Derby Day has $1.5 Million Dollar Rainbow 6 Carryover
Lead: Saturday's Florida Derby Day program, which features seven stakes (six graded) worth $1.9 million, will also have a 10-cent Rainbow 6 Carryover starting at $1,536,579.07.
There was no unique winning ticket on the Rainbow 6 Friday. There were two live tickets going into the last race on Simon Won't Say (20-1) and Sweet Stud E (20-1), but the two were never a factor. Those holding tickets with the winners of the last six races received a consolation of $6,792.80.
Derby Day festivities Saturday start at 7 a.m. with Breakfast at Gulfstream, where a drawing will be held to giveaway five $300 betting vouchers on the Florida Derby.
First race post is 12:30 p.m. The $75,000 Sir Shackleton will be the second race on the program. The six graded stakes races, including the $1 million Besilu Stables Florida Derby, will start with the $150,000 Rampart (G3) as the fourth race. The $300,000 Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2), a leading prep or the Kentucky Oaks (G1), will be the eighth race and will feature Live Lively, Dreaming of Julia and Cue The Moon.
Last year's Florida Derby winner Take Charge Indy will race in the $100,000 Skip Away (G3) and will face Travers winner Golden Ticket and Pants On Fire. Rosie Napravnik, in town to ride Shanghai Bobby in the Derby, will be aboard Take Charge Indy.
The 1 1/8 mile Derby drew a field of 10 including last year's juvenile champion Shanghai Bobby, Fountain of Youth (G2) winner Orb, and Holy Bull (G3) and Gulfstream Park Derby winner Itsmyluckyday.
Post time for the Derby is approximately 6:19 p.m.
Leyva Has The Hot Hand: Jockey Juan Leyva had the hat trick Friday, winning the first with Sydney Rules ($5.40), the fourth with Statutorial ($17.40) and the seventh with High Level Jeff ($21.40).
