HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 10-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot was hit at Gulfstream Park for the first time Thursday, when a single winning ticket with the winners of the last six races paid $221,677.41.
The winning ticket was included in a $640 combination ticket bought at a U.S. off-track site through an Oregon wagering hub.
The Rainbow 6 jackpot pool, which was originally seeded with $5000, will be seeded with $15,000 for Friday’s card.
“Because so many of our customers are having a lot of fun with this bet, we’ve decided to seed the Rainbow 6 pool beginning Friday with $15,000,” said Gulfstream Park President and General Manager Steve Calabro.
The lucrative jackpot for the innovative 10-cent wager included carryover pools from the first 17 days of the 2011 meeting that kicked off Jan. 5.
There were three live tickets going into Thursday’s ninth and final race, with the No. 1 Favorite Melody, No. 2 Zaniah and No. 10 Sweet N Nutty all eligible to complete a single winning ticket with a victory in the one-mile turf race.
Zaniah, an 11-1 longshot ridden by Orlando Bocachica led for most of the way, only to fall short by a neck to Favorite Melody, who was sent to post at 6-1 . Sweet N Nutty was never a factor in a seventh-place finish.
