Nicoletti Takes Gulfstream's 2011 Handicapping Title


 HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Ron Nicoletti, Gulfstream’s popular host and track analyst, won the track handicapping title with 201 winners over the course of the meet.

Nicoletti’s picks, along with handicappers Jessica Pacheco, Ed Gray and Brian Skirka, were available free on the Gulfstream Tip Sheet, distributed each day at Gulfstream and at Nicoletti picked the first four winners of the meet on Jan. 3 and selected six winners on April 23, the day the $10-cent Rainbow 6 was paid out with a pool of more than $5 million.

Nicoletti’s closest rival was Skirka with 188 winners. Gray was next with 158 and Pacheco with 154. Skirka’s best bet of the day proved best within the handicapping competition, winning 27 times, seven better than Gray’s best bets. Pacheco’s longshots came in a contest-best 11 times. Nicoletti, Gray and Skirka each had six of their longshots win.

“The racing this year was the most competitive I can recall,” Nicoletti said. “It was a pleasure and a lot of fun working with Jessica, Ed and Brian, and it was an honor to be part of such a memorable, record-breaking season at Gulfstream Park.”
