No Major Injuries In Fifth Race Spill
Three jockeys and horses escaped major injury Saturday when they were involved in a spill during the running of the fifth race at Gulfstream Park.
Jockey Jose Lezcano, riding All Alex, and jockey Luis Saez, riding Boss Man, were taken to a local hospital for precautionary measures. Both had full mobility and were speaking. Jockey Francisco Torres, riding Layton Register, walked away from the spill, which occurred as horses entered the backstretch in a 1 1/8 miles turf event. All three horses were uninjured.
Lezcano and Saez took off their mounts for the remainder of the afternoon. Lezcano was named to ride Gulfstream Park Sprint Championship (G3) winner Fort Loudon in the $300,000 Gulfstream Park Handicap (G2). Jeffrey Sanchez was named as the new rider. Saez was named to ride Swagger Jack. A replacement had not been named as of 4 p.m.
