Soaring Empire Breezes for Likely Start in Donn Handicap

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Ol Memorial Stables and C.E. Glasscock’s 5-year-old Soaring Empire breezed five furlongs in 1:01 flat Friday morning at Gulfstream Park, and trainer Cam Gambolati confirmed him as a probable starter in the $500,000 Donn Handicap (G1) to be run Saturday Feb. 11 at 1 1/8 miles.
 

Musical Flair Returns in Needles Saturday

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Kathleen Amaya and Raffaele Centofant’s Musical Flair, a 2 ¾ lengths winner in August of the five furlong Fasig-Tipton Turf Dash in his only start on grass, is set for his 2012 debut Saturday in a field of seven 3-year-olds going the same distance over the Gulfstream Park course in the $60,000 Needles Stakes.
 

Gulfstream Guarantees $10,000 Jockeys vs. Joes Poker Tournament Feb. 17

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino announced today the inaugural Jockeys vs. Joes Poker Tournament with guaranteed prize money of $10,000, to be held Friday, Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in Gulfstream’s poker room.

Algorithms a Derby Candidate After Upsetting Hansen in Holy Bull

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Algorithms remained undefeated in Sunday’s $400,000 Holy Bull (G3) at Gulfstream Park while handing 2011 Eclipse Award-winning Hansen the first defeat of his career.
While scoring by five lengths in his stakes debut with his third-straight trip to the winner’s circle, the Todd Pletcher-trained colt became an instant and prominent candidate for this year’s Kentucky Derby. The son of Bernardini also completed a graded-stakes double for Pletcher, who saddled Broadway’s Alibi for a 16 ¾ -length triumph in the $200,000 Forward Gal (G2) one race earlier on the 11-race card.
 

Florida Sunshine Millions Winners Doing Fine

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL –Florida Sunshine Millions winners Mucho Macho Man, Awesome Feather and Little Mike all came out of Saturday’s races in good order, according to their trainers Sunday morning.

Mucho Macho Man, impressive winning the $400,000 Classic by 1 ½ lengths over Ron the Greek, was grazing early Sunday morning outside his barn while a large group of fans, including owners from Reeves Thoroughbred Racing and Dream Team One Racing Stable, admired the tall 4-year-old bay colt.
