Ancient Rome To Stretch Out in Gulfstream Park Derby

Trainer Anthony Dutrow admits he isn’t sure if his soon-to-be-3-year-old Ancient Rome will be able to stretch out around two turns, but by the time the field for Sunday’s inaugural running of the Gulfstream Park Derby hits the wire he should have a pretty good idea.

Stride Rite Stable’s 2-year-old Kentucky homebred filly Frolic’s Revenge had a very wide trip from post 12 when finishing ninth of 14 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) Nov. 4 at Churchill Downs. She gets a chance to get back on track as she makes her first start on turf in Saturday’s $60,000 Ginger Brew Stakes going 1 1/16 miles at Gulfstream Park.

Boys At Tosconova Continues Comeback in Friday Feature

Jay Em Ess Stable and partners’ Boys At Tosconova was expected to be a major player in the 3-year-old division early this year after having won the Hopeful Stakes (G1) at Saratoga and finishing second to Uncle Mo in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) in 2010. But ankle issues kept him on the sidelines for 11 months until finishing third in an allowance race at Belmont Park on Oct. 8.
 

Little Mike Ready For Return To Action Thursday

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Little Mike really took to the Gulfstream Park turf course last season while scoring three-graded stakes victories. Earlier in the week, the 4-year-old gelding took to the infield course again, skipping five furlongs over the grass in 58.95 seconds.
