Pompay Looks to 'Zero' in on Sunday Stakes

When Zero Rate Policy goes to post in Sunday’s $60,000 Sunshine State Stakes at Gulfstream Park, the 3-year-old gelding will have a lot going for him in the seven-furlong event for Florida-bred horses.
“He’s feeling good; his coat looks great; he’s happy; he loves this track,” said trainer Terri Pompay, listing the positives in the son of Trippi’s preparation for the Sunshine State. “I expect he’ll put in a really good effort.”

John Kimmel isn’t about to underestimate the competition in Saturday’s $100,000 Spectacular Bid Stakes at Gulfstream Park, but the veteran trainer’s primary concern will be focused on the sky.

With partly cloudy skies and only a slight chance of showers forecast for the opening day of Gulfstream’s 2011-2012 meeting, it looks like Kimmel will be able to relax and concentrate on Vexor’s task at hand in the six-furlong stakes for 2-year-olds.

First race post is 12:35 p.m.

Gulfstream Park television analysts Ron Nicoletti and Jessica Pacheco will host a live chat at www.GulfstreamPark.com Friday night to discuss the upcoming 87-day meet, which begins Saturday, Dec. 3 with a first race post of 12:35 p.m.

Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino will be home to quite a few new features throughout its 2011-12 meet, including a Dec. 3 return of live racing, a 12:35 pm first race post time, and a new infield video board.  

One thing remaining the same, however, is the overwhelming talent that will call the Gulfstream Park jockey’s room home during the upcoming season.
