STRONACH NAMED 'MAN OF THE YEAR' BY FHBPA
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Frank Stronach, Chairman of Gulfstream Park and The Stronach Group, was recognized for his contributions to Florida Thoroughbred racing Thursday night by being named 'Man of the Year' at the Florida Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association's (FHBPA) annual dinner.
Stronach, who purchased Gulfstream in 1999, has been at the forefront of the movement to modernize and revitalize Thoroughbred racing and has invested more than $500 million in Florida racing.
"The inscription on Mr. Stronach’s 'FHBPA Man of the Year' plaque reads, 'for dedicated service to Florida horse racing," said FHBPA President Phil Combest. "The emphasis being on 'horse racing.' For more than a decade he has consistently shown that he cares about our sport and wants to see racing succeed and grow…not just in Florida, but around the country. It’s the horses and the horsemen that Mr. Stronach cares about and for that, the FHBPA Board of Directors unanimously agreed that he should receive this honor. And I might add when the announcement was made at last night’s annual FHBPA dinner, the horsemen in the audience showed they absolutely approved as well."
