Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Animal Kingdom and Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Shackleford will meet as many as a dozen others Saturday in the $1 million Belmont Stakes, and the place to watch, wager and win on the third leg of racing’s Triple Crown will be Gulfstream Park.
Gulfstream’s Belmont celebration will include a drawing in which 10 lucky winners will win a $50 win, place and show wager on a horse of their choosing in the 1 ½ mile Belmont Stakes.
Gulfstream’s Silks Simulcast room will open at 10:30 a.m. for a first race post at Belmont of 11:35 a.m., and free tip sheets will be available by Gulfstream’s top handicapper Ron Nicoletti. Reserved seats are $5 and $10. Belmont will have a $1 million guaranteed pool for both the Pick 6 and Late Pick 4.
Belmont’s Saturday afternoon program will also feature the $400,000 Woodford Reserve (G1), $400,000 Foxwoods Just a Game (G1), $250,000 Woody Stephens (G2) and $250,000 True North (G2).
Along with Animal Kingdom, who made his 3-year-old debut at Gulfstream, and Shackleford, who finished second in the Florida Derby (G1), the Belmont is expected to draw the first seven finishers from the Kentucky Derby. They are runner-up Nehro, third-place finisher Mucho Macho Man, fifth-place finisher Master of Hounds, sixth-place finisher Santiva and seventh-place finisher Brilliant Speed.
The Belmont post position draw will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
