Dialed In To "Stick Around" Palm Meadows

Nick Zito was nearly overcome by emotion at Gulfstream Park on Sunday afternoon, his voice quivering as he tried to put into words his reaction to Dialed In’s thrilling last-to-first triumph in the $1 million Florida Derby (G1). The Hall of Fame trainer found it easier to speak about his third Florida Derby victory during training hours at Palm Meadows Monday morning, but he still had difficultly describing the emotions that the late-developing 3-year-old colt evokes in him.

Dialed In stormed from last with a stirring stretch rush to capture Sunday’s $1 million Florida Derby (G1), providing trainer Nick Zito with his third victory in Gulfstream Park’s signature race, as well as an exciting candidate to collect a third triumph in the Kentucky Derby.

Dialed In’s third victory in only four starts proved to be one of highlights of Zito’s Hall of Fame career, which included Kentucky Derby victories by Strike the Gold (1991) and Go for Gin (1994) and triumphs in the Florida Derby with High Fly in 2005 and Ice Box last year.

To Honor and Serve was widely touted as the horse most likely to pose a danger to Uncle Mo this spring, but his popularity took a considerable hit after fading badly to finish a distant third in the Fountain of Youth (G2) at Gulfstream Park Feb. 26.
