Ritvo Weighs Options For Mucho Macho Man

Trainer Kathy Ritvo said Thursday morning that she would love to keep her Grade 2-placed Mucho Macho Man in South Florida for the Feb. 26 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth (G2)

But the need to accumulate those prized graded stakes earnings has the conditioner thinking about the Risen Star (G3) at the Fair Grounds on Feb. 19 as Mucho Macho Man’s next start.

Alex Rankin’s 6-year-old Tar Heel Mom held off Starlight Partners and C.E. Glasscock’s 4-year-old filly Hilda’s Passion by neck under the wire to win the $100,000 Sugar Swirl Stakes (G3) going six furlongs at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 15, and the two are set for a rematch in Sunday’s $150,000 Hurricane Bertie Stakes (G3) at 6 ½ furlongs.

Waterville Lake Stable’s 4-year-old filly Strike It Rich was on a roll the first half of last season winning three straight, including the Little Silver Stakes and Boiling Springs Stakes at Monmouth Park for trainer Christophe Clement. Things didn’t go her way, however, when finishing last of 12 as the favorite in the Lake George Stakes (G2) last out at Saratoga on July 28.
