'Holiday Mood' Brightens Gulfstream Park Winner's Circle

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – A step up into graded-stakes company and a drop-back in distance resulted in a gutsy triumph for R Holiday Mood in the $150,000 Hurricane Bertie Stakes (G3) Sunday at Gulfstream Park.

Returning to action off a dead-heat victory in the one-mile Ocala Stakes for Florida-bred fillies, in which she fought back at the wire to finish on even terms with Delightful Mary, R Holiday Mood once again demonstrated the courage to retake the lead nearing the wire to narrowly prevail in the 6 ½ -furlong sprint.

Force Freeze Brilliant in Gulfstream Sprint Championship

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Saeed Naser al Romaithi’s 7-year-old gelding Force Freeze was simply brilliant winning Saturday’s $150,000 Gulfstream Park Sprint Championship (G2) by 3 ¾ lengths in his first start since finishing a game second by a neck behind Amazombie in the $1.5 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5.

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – As Hymn Book stormed through the stretch to a hard-fought nose triumph in Saturday’s $500,000 Donn Handicap (G1) at Gulfstream Park, trainer Shug McGaughey had to be thankful for a rainy day in New York back in May.
 
Hymn Book ($15) had followed in his mother Vespa’s hoof prints and proved to be a very useful, if not dominating, racehorse on turf, able to scratch out several victories and on-the-board finishes in the allowance ranks.
 

Snow Top Mountain Captures the Suwannee River

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - The sun was shining on Gulfstream Park ‘s turf course, labeled good after a week of thunder showers, for Snow Top Mountain to capture the Suwannee River Handicap (G3).  The grey mare completed the 1 1/8 miles stake in 1:52.86, a half length over Hit It Rich and Gold d’Oro.

Musical Flair Breathes Easy in Needles Stakes

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Musical Flair took a deep breath in the stretch at Gulfstream Park Saturday and sprinted to victory in the $60,000 Needles Stakes.

The 3-year-old son of Songandaprayer, who underwent surgery to repair an entrapped epiglottis after finishing 11th in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Keeneland last October, scored by three-quarters of a length in the five-furlong sprint on turf.

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Mucho Macho Man put on a sparkling demonstration of resilience and raw ability at Gulfstream Park Saturday, capping the Florida Sunshine Millions program with an authoritative triumph in the $400,000 Classic.One of only three horses to have competed in all the three legs of the grueling Triple Crown last year, Mucho Macho Man made an auspicious 2012 debut in the finale of the six stakes for Florida-bred thoroughbreds with an overpowering performance.

Hooh Why Scores in Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf

The estate of Gail Gee, Mark Hoffman, and Earl Trostud earned $90,000 of the $150,000 purse when their chestnut mare, Hooh Why, captured the Florida Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf.  The daughter of Cloud Hopping covered the 1 1/8th mile event in 1:46.77 over favorite Romacaca. Speak Easy Gal finished third.
