$1 Gulfstream Summer Sweep Pick 5 Goes North of the Border

Woodbine Partners with Gulfstream for Sunday’s 5-Race Sequence
Sunday’s Rainbow 5 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $75,000

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Sunday’s $1 Gulfstream Summer Sweep Pick 5, a player friendly multi-race wager with a 15-percent takeout, will feature three races at Gulfstream (Races 5, 6 and 7) and two races from Woodbine (Races 5 and 6).

The Summer Sweep Pick 5 sequence will be kicked off at 2:35 p.m. by Race 5 at Gulfstream, a 5 1/2-furlong $10,000 claimer for 3-year-olds and up. Formerly trained by his owner Happy Alter, Big Timer will make his first start for leading trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. Rohan Crichton-trained Fuoco Vivo drops from starter allowance company. Promising apprentice Pedro Pena jumps aboard Teddy Bear, who has faced tougher in recent starts.

The $70,000 Empire Builder, a mile handicap for 3-year-olds and up on turf, is carded as Gulfstream’s Race 6. Siege of Boston, a 7-year-old warrior with more than $600K in earnings, is the 9-5 morning-line favorite to give trainer Jimmy Toner his 900th career winner. Bobby Dibona-trained Missed the Cut enters the race with in-the-money finishes in back-to-back stakes.

A small field of maidens will contest Race 5 at Woodbine, where Harold Ladouceur-trained Mr. Perfect, who has finished second in five of 10 starts, is the 2-1 morning-line favorite in the 1 1/8-mile maiden claimer for 3-yar-olds and up on Tapeta. Patrick Dixon-trained Stormy Cloud is eligible to improve on the stretch-out following promising sprint tries. Devon Gittens-trained Fog d’Oro showed vast improvement while stretching out last time out.

Back at Gulfstream for Race 7, Jose Castro-trained Stella Bionda, a sharp winner on Tapeta two starts back, goes from turf back to the all-weather track for this1 1/16-mile starter allowance for 3-year-old fillies. Victor Barboza Jr.-trained New Life will look to go back-to-back with Samy Camacho aboard. Kathleen O’Connell-trained Scarlett’s Law finished second behind New Life last time after racing wide.

A 1 3/8-mile optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up in Race 6 at Woodbine closes out the Summer Sweep Pick 5 with a 3:45 p.m. post time. Catherine Day Phillips-trained Weller Green is the 8-5 morning-line favorite in a field of five following a strong runner-up finish in a fast race. Coburg is eligible to improve on recent maiden-breaking performance in his second start for trainer Sean Smullen.

The Gulfstream Summer Sweep Pick 5, a retail-only wager with a $1 minimum, sill be offered each day through Sept. 20. Should no ticket with all five winners be sold, 100-percent of the pool will be carried over to the next racing day. There will be no consolation payoff for tickets with fewer than five winners.

Sunday’s Rainbow 5 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $75,000

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $75,000 Sunday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager went unsolved Saturday on the first racing day following last Monday’s mandatory payout.

Sunday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 3-8, featuring the $70,000 Empire Builder Handicap in Race 6. Jimmy Toner-trained Siege of Boston, a veteran campaigner with more than $600,000 in earnings, is the 9-5 morning-line favorite for the mile overnight handicap for 3-year-olds and up on turf.

In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

On mandatory payout days, the entire pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors holding tickets with the most winners in the six-race sequence.

A mandatory Rainbow 6 payout is scheduled for every Monday through Aug. 31.
