Anna’s Promise Training Toward Kentucky Oaks (G1)

4/5/2025

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Bell Racing’s 3-year-old filly Anna’s Promise, decisive runner-up behind favored Five G in the March 29 Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2), has relocated to Keeneland to continue preparations for a possible start in the Kentucky Oaks (G1).

Based at Palm Meadows, Gulfstream’s satellite training facility in Palm Beach County, Anna’s Promise and trainer Carlos David left South Florida for Lexington, Ky. shortly after the Gulfstream Park Oaks, arriving ahead of the heavy rain and storms that have swept through Midwest in recent days.

“The horses got here before the weather. They’ve been here and training. We’ve been kind of lucky in the mornings. We’re just having to work around the weather a little bit. Hopefully this goes away in the next couple days,” David said Friday. “She’s doing great. She’s very talented. We’re going to see what she tells us. So far, so good.”

Anna’s Promise pressed front-running winner Five G throughout the Gulfstream Park Oaks and wound up beaten 2 ¼ lengths in her stakes debut, snapping a two-race win streak, finishing 10 ¼ lengths ahead of Cassiar in third.

For the effort Anna’s Promise picked up 50 qualifying points for the 1 1/8-mile Kentucky Oaks May 2, ranking her eighth overall with the race limited to 14 starters and final qualifiers this weekend in California, Kentucky and New York.

“We’re going to watch all these prep races and the points and everything and kind of see where we stand, and make sure we can be in the race because that seems to be her next spot,” David said. “We’ll see where we stand at the end of the day and we’ll see if we can take a shot at that race.”

If Anna’s Promise does not run in the Kentucky Oaks, she would be pointed to the 1 1/8-mile Black-Eyed Susan May 16 at Pimlico. David plans to give the daughter of Grade 1-winning millionaire Promises Fulfilled – who he claimed Feb. 5 for $50,000 out of a maiden victory at Gulfstream – at least one breeze ahead of the Oaks.

“The race is on the 2nd so we have plenty of time. We’ll put her on a breeze schedule. It’ll have to be next weekend because this weekend the track is terrible. If she’s in good shape we’ll start doing something with her,” David said. “She came out of the last race in really good shape. I brought here to Kentucky because I wanted her to be where I’m at. She’s training and doing good.”

David also has Caramel Chip entered in Keeneland’s seven-furlong Commonwealth (G3), rescheduled from Friday to Monday due to the weather. The 7-year-old exits a neck victory over Speak Easy in a March 1 optional claiming allowance at Gulfstream.

“There’s an allowance race on the 11th but it doesn’t look like it’s going to go. We entered in the Commonwealth thinking with the weather it’s going to be an off track. If the rain stops and the track will be fast Tuesday, we’re going to have to make a decision whether we’re going to run in there or skip it. We’ll see.”

Saturday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $500,000

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved for a sixth consecutive racing day Friday at Gulfstream Parsk and will have its jackpot pool estimated at $500,000 for Saturday’s 10-race program.

First race post time is 12:50 p.m.

Saturday’s Rainbow 6 spans Races 5-10 and includes the featured $70,000 Go Cats Go overnight handicap for 3-year-olds and up scheduled for five furlongs on the grass. The lukewarm 7-2 program favorite is Xy Speed, seeking his 16th career victory over nine rivals including the top three finishers from Gulfstream’s March 8 Silks Run – Eamonn, Reef Runner and Biz Biz Buzz.

In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

A mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 is scheduled for Sunday, April 13.

Gulfstream’s Silks Simulcast Center will open its doors at 9 a.m. Saturday for fans wishing to watch and wager on the Dubai World Cup Day program.

In conjunction with the Go Cats Go, honoring the National Hockey League champion Florida Panthers, the Stanley Cup will be on display from noon to 2:30 p.m. at Ten Palms restaurant.
