Gulfstream’s Summer: A Return to Turf, Monday Racing, Big July 4 Weekend Rainbow 6 Hit for $110,007

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Gulfstream Park will open Tuesday through Saturday this week so fans can watch and wager on the prestigious races from Royal Ascot.

Celtic Dispute, who earned an automatic entry into one of six stakes for 2-year-olds at the Royal Ascot meeting with her victory in the $100,000 Royal Palm Juvenile at Gulfstream May 9, will run Wednesday in the five-furlong Queen Mary (G2).

Since its inception three years ago, Gulfstream’s Royal Palm series has been extremely well represented during the Royal Ascot meeting. George Weaver-trained Crimson Advocate won the 2023 Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies and Queen Mary. In 2024, Jose D’Angelo-trained Gabaldon finished second in the Windsor Castle after capturing the Royal Palm Juvenile. Last year, Weaver-trained Sandal’s Song finished third in the Norfolk (G2) after capturing the Royal Palm Juvenile, while Biancone-trained Lennilu checked in third in the Queen Mary.

Beginning Tuesday Gulfstream’s Silks simulcast room will open at 9 a.m. daily to accommodate a first post time daily at Royal Ascot of 9:30 ET. Daily programs will be available for free.

Gulfstream’s Summer: A Return to Turf, Monday Racing, Big July 4 Weekend

Gulfstream Park’s latest condition book shows a return to turf racing, a change to the weekly schedule, and a huge July 4th weekend with six stakes worth more than $500,000 and an additional $100,000 available through the Florida-bred Incentive Fund.

Gulfstream’s July 4th weekend will begin Friday, July 3 with the $100,000 Sharp Susan and $70,000 Wildcat Red. The Sharp Susan, for 2-year-old fillies at 5 ½ furlongs, will have an additional $25,000 available to owners with Florida breds. The Wildcat Red will be contested at a mile for 3-year-olds and up.

The $100,000 Smile Sprint for 3-year-olds and up at six furlongs and the $100,000 Soldier’s Dancer for 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/16th mile on the turf headline July 4. Both races will have an additional $25,000 to owners with Florida breds.

On Sunday, July 5, the stakes action continues with the $100,000 Proud Man for 2-year-olds at 5 ½ furlongs and the $70,000 Pay Any Price at five furlongs on the turf for 3-year-olds and up. The Proud Man will also offer $25,000 in additional purse money to owners with Florida breds.

Gulfstream’s weekly schedule will change slightly when live racing takes place Saturday, Sunday and Monday beginning the weekend of July 11. The first Monday program will take place July 13.

Rainbow 6 Hit for $110,007

Classy Beach, owned by Gerald Flanagan and Andrea Hendricks, held off a late rally by Lady Rockula to win Sunday’s last race, allowing one bettor to take down the 20-cent Rainbow 6 worth $110,007.26.

In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. On mandatory payout days, the entire pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors holding tickets with the most winners in the six-race sequence.
