Biancone Returns to Gulfstream a Winner in Friday Feature
6/20/2025Saturday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $100,000
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Just two days after saddling Lennilu for a third-place finish in the Queen Mary (G2) at Royal Ascot, trainer Patrick Biancone returned to the Gulfstream Park winner’s circle following Friday’s Race 7 feature.
Biancone-trained Layabout ($10.80) defeated 4-5 favorite Win With Faith by 1 ¼ lengths in the mile optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds on turf to go 2-for-2 since joining Biancone’s stable at Palm Meadows, Gulfstream’s satellite training facility in Palm Beach County.
Showing no signs of jetlag, Biancone expressed pride in Lennilu, who had earned her way into the Queen Mary by winning the $100,000 Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies May 10 over Gulfstream’s turf course. The 2-year-old daughter of Leinster, who had debuted with a victory on dirt at Keeneland, was prominent throughout the six-furlong Queen Mary but was no match late for Coolmore’s dominant winner True Love.
“We’re very happy. She came out of the race very good,” said Biancone, reporting the Florida-bred filly will return to the U.S. Tuesday. “She’ll get a little break, and we’ll plan the second part of the year.”
Layabout, who went winless on dirt around one turn in his first three career starts, graduated at first asking for Biancone while winning a mile-and 70-yard optional claiming maiden race on Tapeta May 9. The gelded son of Laoban came right back to win his turf debut while running a mile on firm turf in 1:33.57. Jonathan Ocasio has been aboard for both of Layabout’s back-to-back wins.
Saturday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $100,000
The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $100,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the second racing day following Sunday’s mandatory payout, which yielded multiple $47,670 payoffs.
Saturday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 6-11, featuring a showdown between Jose D’Angelo-trained Rotterdam and Mark Casse-trained Dear Dad in Race 8, a mile optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up on turf.
Rotterdam returns to Gulfstream following a couple of respectable outings at Keeneland and Churchill Downs. Dear Dad looks to return to the winner’s circle following four straight on-the-board finishes since his last victory during the Championship Meet.
In the Rainbow 6, the carryover pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
