Breath Away Earns Trip to Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf (G2)

Pegasus World Cup Day Jan. 24

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Breath Away, owned by Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Steven Rocco and Marc Levine, automatically qualified for the Pegasus World Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G2) Saturday by rallying down the stretch to win the $200,000 Dance Smartly (G2) at Woodbine.

Trained by Miguel Clement and ridden by Sahin Civaci, Breath Away covered the 1 1/16-mile turf course in 1:41.74. The 5-year-old mare came into the race having won the Violet Stakes at Monmouth Park Aug. 30.

The Dance Smartly is one of 1/ST Racing’s innovative global partnerships. Earlier this year 1/ST Racing partnered with the Goodwood Festival in West Sussex, England, for a pair of Pegasus automatic qualifying races. Qirat qualified for the Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1) with a victory in the Sussex Stakes (G1), while Whirl qualified for the Pegasus World Cup Filly & Mare Turf by winning the Qatar Nassau Stakes (G1).

The 10th Pegasus World Cup Invitational Series, to be held at Gulfstream Saturday, Jan. 24, has welcomed legendary Thoroughbred racehorses including Arrogate (Longines 2016 World’s Best Racehorse and inaugural 2017 Pegasus World Cup Invitational winner), two-time Horse of the Year California Chrome and Horses of the Year Gun Runner, Knicks Go and Bricks and Mortar; Preakness (G1) winner National Treasure; Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) winner City of Light and Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mystik Dan. Six of the nine previous Pegasus World Cup Invitational winners have also won Breeders’ Cup races. Meanwhile, the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational has welcomed horses from Japan, Ireland, the United Kingdom and South America.

Pegasus World Cup Day has also been a premier event on the Miami and South Florida social calendars. Post-race performances have included Post Malone, Black Coffee, Calvin Harris and Snoop Dogg while celebrities attending have included Jennifer Lopez, Camila Cabello, Pharrell Williams, Lenny Kravitz and Usher.
