‘Carryover Alert’ Active for Friday’s $1 Sunset Pick 6
10/1/2026HALLANDALE BEACH, FL– Carryover Alert!
Wagering on Friday’s $1 Sunset Pick 6 will start with a $20,490.69 carryover. The retail-only, player-friendly, multi-race wager with a 15-percent takeout requires the bettor to buy a ticket with the winners of six designated races originating from Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita Park. If a ticket is not sold with all six winners, the pool is carried over to the next Sunset Pick 6.
The first three legs of Friday’s Sunset Pick 6 Sequence will be Races 7, 8 and, 9 at Gulfstream, followed by Races 7, 8 and 9 at Santa Anita.
Leg A, Gulfstream’s Race 7 is a mile optional claiming allowance for 3-year-old fillies scheduled for turf with a 3:30 p.m. post time. Jeff Engler-trained Bert’s Knoty Girl, who has been installed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite in a field of seven, is coming off a third-place finish in the Miss Gracie Stakes. Kevin McKathan-trained Softly Dreaming may well benefit if the race is contested on Tapeta, over which she has been first or second in her four stars over the all-weather surface.
Leg B, Gulfstream’s Race 8 is a 5 1/2 furlong optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up on the main track. Mary Eppler-trained Proud American and Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Mish, who finished one-two in their recent meeting, will clash again in a seven-horse field. King Cab has been breezing sharply for his first start for red-hot trainer Victor Barboza Jr. while coming off a long layoff.
Leg C, Gulfstream’s Race 9 is a mile maiden special weight event for 3-year-olds and up scheduled for turf. Ron Spatz-trained Jean Laffite, who finished a promising second in his debut on turf, will race without blinkers for the first time following a recent disappointment as the favorite on Tapeta. David Fawkes-trained Happy Memories will race with blinkers-on following a promising second over the main track.
Leg D, Santa Anita’s Race 7 is a mile optional claimer for fillies and mares on turf. Phil D’Amata-trained Canto Della Terra, an Irish import who finished off-the-board in the John C. Maybe (G2) after winning twice and finishing second once in her first three starts in the U.S., is the 7-5 morning-line favorite in a field of 6. Goodies, a D’Amato stablemate, is coming off back-to-back victories at a mile on turf.
Leg E, Santa Anita’s Race 8, a 6 1/2-furlong optional claiming event for California-bred 3-year-old fillies that drew a full field of 12, is likely to be a popular ‘spread’ leg.
Leg F, Santa Anita’s Race 9, is a mile maiden special weight for 3-year-old fillies on turf with an 8:07 p.m. ET post time. Richard Mandella-trained Vendetta, who finished an even fifth in the Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar last out, is the 6-5 morning-line favorite in a field of 9. Michael McCarthy-trained Royal Pearl is rated second on the morning-line at 5-2 for his turf debut after a pair of OK efforts in main track sprints.
Gulfstream and Santa Anita will also partner for Friday’s 1/ST Coast-to-Coast Pick 5, a retail-only, player-friendly, multi-race wager with a $1 minimum and a 15-percent takeout. Friday’s sequence will be kicked off at 4:04 p.m. ET by Leg A, Gulfstream’s Race 8 (See above).
Leg B, Santa Anita’s Race 2 is a mile $20,000 claiming event for 3-year-olds and up on the main track. Steve Sherman-trained Joint Venture will race with blinkers back on. The 9-5 morning-line favorite in a field of six has won seven races with blinkers in the past. Mighty Kai, a claim-back by Doug O’Neill, and Steve Miyadi-trained Del Mar Jerry, a veteran runner who had beaten better in the past at Santa Anita, are also likely to receive some support from bettors.
Leg C, Gulfstream’s Race 9 (See Above).
Leg D, Santa Anita’s Race 3 is a six-furlong optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up on turf. Phil D’Amato-trained Arrakis, the 6-5 morning-line favorite in a field of eight, returns to Santa Anita where he won at six furlongs on turf last season.
Leg E, Santa Anita’s Race 5 is a six-furlong maiden special weight for fillies and mares on turf with a 6:01 p.m. ET post time. Jack Sisterson-trained Sutura, who fell a neck shy of graduation at Kentucky Downs last time out, is the 8-5 morning-line favorite in a field of nine. Doug O’Neill-trained First Or Last is likely to receive bettor support in his return to turf, over which she finished second two starts back.
Also on Friday at Gulfstream Park, the 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $125,000. The Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9.
