De Regreso Seeking to Rebound in Monroe Stakes Return

4/23/2025

Multiple-Stakes Winner Exits Subpar G2 Pegasus F&MT Try

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Stonehaven Steading LLC’s De Regreso enters Saturday’s $75,000 Monroe Stakes seeking a return to her stakes-winning form. When last seen in action at Gulfstream Park, the 4-year-old daughter of Audible was holding her own against some of the top fillies and mares in the country in the $500,000 Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf (G2) Jan. 25 before suddenly backing through the field on the far turn.

Following a series of solid five-furlong workouts, De Regreso has given trainer Antonio Sano confidence that she is ready to put her subpar performance behind her when she meets 10 fillies and mares in the Monroe at the 1 1/16-mile Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf distance.

“The filly ended up bleeding in the Pegasus race, but she is training very well,” Sano said. “She’s ready for the race. Her workout the other day was very good.”

Her 11th-place finish on $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) undercard was a rare off-the-board finish on the Gulfstream Park turf course, over which she has a stakes win and two stakes placings in her three most recent races on it.

Sano will also be represented in the Monroe by Tami Bobo’s Sensitivity. The 6-year-old daughter of Street Sense is coming off a last-to-first triumph in a 7 ½-furlong optional claiming allowance on turf at Gulfstream April 12 in her first start since being transferred to Sano’s stable.

Edwin Gonzalez is scheduled to ride De Regreso for the first time, while Rajiv Maragh returns aboard Sensitivity.

While many of Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher’s stakes performers have already headed north, Repole Stable’s Life’s an Audible has remained at Gulfstream for Saturday’s Monroe.

“She’s had some success over the turf course here, so this seems like a logical spot for her,” Pletcher said.

The 4-year-old daughter of 2018 Florida Derby (G1) winner Audible captured the Sweetest Chant (G3) and finished a close second in the Herecomesthebride (G3) on turf in 2024. She won an optional claiming allowance on the Tapeta course during the recently concluded 2024-2025 Championship Meet.

Leading rider Edgard Zayas is named to ride Life’s an Audible for the first time Saturday.

Trainer Christophe Clement is represented by Cheyenne Stable LLC’s Ozara and Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Tango Uniform Racing LLC and Steven Rocco’s Breath Away, both stakes winners over the Gulfstream turf course, in the Monroe field.

Ozara, who won the Ginger Brew and Wait a While during the 2023-2024 Championship Meet, returned from a long layoff to win an optional claiming allowance before finishing sixth in the March 1 Honey Fox (G3). Breath Away, who won the Sanibel Island in 2023, most recently finished third in the March 29 Sand Springs at Gulfstream.

Emisael Jaramillo is slated to ride Ozara for the first time, while Paco Lopez is named on Breath Away.

Gary Barber, Rocky Top Stable and LEMB Stables’ Dancing N Dixie is entered to make her 2025 debut in the Monroe. Trained by Hall of Famer Mark Casse, the 4-year-old daughter of Neolithic was graded stakes-placed at Tampa Bay, Keeneland, Churchill Downs and Saratoga last year.

Joe Bravo is scheduled to ride the Florida-bred Dancing N Dixie for the first time.

Douglas Self’s Swoonatra, Full of Run Racing II LLC and Cold Press Racing’s Pursuit of Liberty, Starship Stables’ Starship Agenda, Charles Hallas’ Lady Firefoot, and Maxine Simms’ Puckered, round out the field.
