Fiveeyesonskystars Shines Bright at 60-1 in Mr. Jordan Handicap

10/24/2026

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Dr. Pierre Malek and trainer Roderick Rodriguez’s Fiveeyesonskystars may have been overlooked in the betting at 60-1, but the 5-year-old gelding turned in an eye-catching performance to pull off a last-to-first upset victory in Saturday’s $60,000 Mr. Jordan Handicap.

Vibe, who was purchased for $3 million at the 2023 Keeneland September sale, caught most of the pre-race attention as the 8-5 favorite, but Fiveeyesonskystars, a $7,000 buy at the 2021 Keeneland November sale, would not be ignored in the one-turn mile handicap for 3-year-olds and up.

Fiveeyesonskystars settled in the back of the 10-horse field along the backstretch under Miguel Vasquez as Indecisiveness set fractions of 23.85 and 46.40 seconds for the first half mile, pressed by Vibe and Chrome Ghost. Vasquez sent the longest-priced longshot in the field to the far outside on the far turn and the Kentucky-bred gelding responded with a four-wide sweep into the stretch. Indecisiveness kicked for home under Rasheed Hughes as Vibe and Chrome Ghost gave way through the lane with Fiveeyesonskystars looming on the far outside.

Indecisiveness held gamely but was no match for the fresh legs of Fiveeyesonskystars, who drew off to a one-length victory. Moonstrocity, a 35-1 outsider ridden by Jose Morelos, rallied from mid-pack to finish second, a neck ahead of Indecisiveness.

Fiveeyesonskystars ran the one-turn mile in 1:37.46.

“He finished third two races ago with horses like these. He didn’t run bad. Then last time, we were like: What happened?” Rodriguez said of the son of Outwork. “He was way on the outside. I don’t think he liked that. But he’s been training like a good thing.”

Vibe, who finished eighth Saturday, had a solid history at Gulfstream in the past. He disappointed on debut at Gulfstream while finishing a distant fourth in a six-furlong maiden March 15, 2025, but he looked more the part of a pricey prospect a month later while graduating by 9 3/4 lengths in a one-turn mile maiden special weight. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t be seen in action again for 11 months, but he didn’t’ miss a beat, returning to the Gulfstream winner’s circle following a 1 1/2-length score in a one-turn mile optional claimer.

Vibe appeared on his way to living up to his steep price-tag when he followed up his Gulfstream win with a sharp three-length triumph at Churchill Downs in a one-turn mile optional claiming allowance victory that earned him a start in this year’s Metropolitan Mile (G1) at Saratoga. Unfortunately, jockey Luis Saez pulled him up in the stretch, where the Pletcher trainee walked onto an ambulance. He has gone winless in his three starts since his return at Saratoga in August.
