Well-Bred Canton Debuts in Well-Stocked 2YO Maiden Test

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $100,000 Friday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for three racing days following an Aug. 3 mandatory payout.

The Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9 on a nine-race program that will get underway at 12:50 p.m. and will feature a $70,000 maiden special weight event for 2-year-old fillies in Race 6.

Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Canton has been installed at the 8-5 morning-line favorite in a well-stocked field of nine first-time starters assembled for Race 6. Canton, a daughter of Liam’s Map, is a half-sister to Basin, a $573,640 earner who won the 2019 Hopeful (G1) at Saratoga and the 2020 Sir Shackleton at Gulfstream. Canton is also a half-sister to Rise Up, a $1.2 million earner who won 12 races and finished second 12 times during a career that spanned 2013-2019 and included a victory in the 2013 $1 million Delta Jackpot (G3).

The Rainbow 6 sequence will be headlined by a seven-furlong optional claiming allowance for Florida-bred fillies and mares in Race 8. Jose

D’Angelo-trained Aless Queen, who has finished second or third in her last four starts, is favored at 5-2 on the morning line for the 10-horse field. The daughter of Bucchero finished second behind next-out winner Royal Poppy last time out at seven furlongs under returning Edgard Zayas. Tareq Moubarak-trained Neom City, who finished third behind Royal Poppy and Aless Queen, returns Friday under A. Rahim Jasim, who has ridden in Bahrain during his 10-year career. Jasim, who has had one previous mount during the Royal Palm Meet, won the Group 3 King’s Cup in Bahrain in March aboard Elvouge, who is owned by H. H. Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa of Bahrain’s royal family.

In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
