
Grade 1 Winner Fionn Tops G3 Clement Nominations on Pegasus Program

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – George Messina and Michael Lee’s Fionn, a Grade 1 stakes-winning daughter of Twirling Candy, tops the list of 21 nominations for the $175,000 Christophe Clement presented by Don Julio Tequila (G3), a supporting stakes on the Jan. 24 program at Gulfstream Park featuring the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1), $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) and $500,000 Pegasus World Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G3) Invitational.
Trained by Brad Cox, Fionn won four graded stakes during her 2025 campaign, including the Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1) at Saratoga. She most recently captured the Jockey Club Oaks (G3) at Aqueduct.
Other prominent nominees for the Christophe Clement, a 1 ½-mile stakes for older fillies and mares on turf formerly known as the La Prevoyante and renamed to honor the memory of the late trainer who was a longtime supporter of Gulfstream’s racing program, include Newstead Stables LLC’s No Show Sammy Jo, a Graham Motion-trained multiple-stakes winner who is coming off a 5 ¾-length romp in the Dec. 24 Via Borghese Stakes at Gulfstream; and Augustin Stable’s Mrs. Aster, a Jonathan Thomas-trained multiple graded-stakes winner who is coming off a victory in the Red Carpet (G3) at Del Mar in her 2025 finale.
Godolphin LLC’s Knightsbridge, a dazzling winner of the Mr. Prospector (G3) Dec. 20, is prominent on the list of 28 nominations for the $150,000 Fred W. Hooper presented by Fort Lauderdale (G3). Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, the late-developing 5-year-old son of 2016 Florida Derby (G1) hero Nyquist enters the one-turn mile stakes for older horses off a going-away 4 ¾-length victory in the seven-furlong Mr. Prospector. Mike Repole’s Life and Times is expected to make his belated stakes debut in the Hooper. The 5-year-old son of 2018 Triple Crown champion Justify has won his only two starts, a Nov. 1 debut and a Dec.6 optional claiming allowance, with overwhelming ease, both efforts achieved at a one-turn mile at Aqueduct.
The $225,000 Inside Information presented by MyRacehorse (G2), a seven-furlong feature for older fillies and mares, attracted 21 nominations, including Godolphin’s Verity, a Eoin Harty-trained daughter of Nyquist who won the Beaumont (G2) at Keeneland last spring and is coming off a runner-up finish in a Churchill Downs allowance off a long layoff; Parkland Thoroughbreds, Sportsman Stable and Avanti Stable’s Jody’s Pride, a Jorge Abreu-trained Grade 2-stakes winner trained by Jorge Abreu; and Mark Anderson’s Sterling Silver, an Anthony Margotta-trained daughter of Cupid, and Tranquility Lake Farms LLC’s Necessity, a Riley Mott-trained daughter of Constitution, who finished 1-2 in the Dec. 26 Rampart.
The 59th running of the $225,000 William L. McKnight presented by Woodford Reserve Bourbon (G3), a 1 ½-mile turf stakes for older horses, drew 24 nominations, including West Point Thoroughbreds, Woodford Racing LLC, Edward Hudson and Lynn Hudson’s Ohana Honor, a Grade 1-placed son of Honor Code trained by Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey; Gold Square LLC’s Hammerhead, the Kevin Attard-trained 2025 Dania Beach runner-up at Gulfstream who is coming off a win in the Valedictory (G3) at Woodbine; and Waterford Stable LLC’s Summer Cause, a Miguel Clement-trained winner of the two-mile H. Allen Jerkens Stakes at Gulfstream last time out.
Sport of Kings Racing Partners LLC’s Coppola, who captured thee $175,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint presented by Seminole Hard Rock last year, tops the list of 25 nominations for this year’s running of the five-furlong turf dash for older horses. The Dale Romans-trained 7-year-old son of Into Mischief tuned up with a close-up third in the Janus, a race he won last year, while coming off a layoff.
The program celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Pegasus World Cup will also be supported by the $100,000 Carousel Club Overnight Handicap, a mile-and-70-yard handicap on Tapeta for older horses, and the $100,000 South Beach Overnight Handicap, a mile-and-70-yard handicap on Tapeta for older fillies and mares.
