HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Steel City Stable and David Fawkes Racing Inc.’s Greenfield Cougar will get her footing in Sunday’s $70,000 Little Miss Holly at Gulfstream Park.
The Fawkes-trained 4-year-old filly, a three-time winner on Tapeta, will seek a return to Gulfstream Park’s winner’s circle in the 5 ½-furlong overnight handicap for fillies and mares on the all-weather surface.
“I think Tapeta is better for her than turf because she struggles on the turn on turf because it gets a little tight for her,” Fawkes said. “She had a bullet workout on Tapeta last week. I’m very happy with her.”
Greenfield Cougar, who most recently closed in the stretch to finish second on turf in a five-furlong allowance, breezed a half-mile in 46.60 seconds last Sunday in preparation for the Little Miss Holly. The workout time was the fastest of 15 recorded at the distance.
Samy Camacho is scheduled to ride Greenfield Cougar for the first time.
“What will I tell him? ‘Break out of there and let her sit there and leave her alone on the turn. She knows how to make the turn,’” Fawkes said. “Fight her and she wants to fight you back.”
The daughter of Breaking Lucky, who is priced at 6-1 on the morning-line, will carry 121 pounds, three fewer than Victor Barboza Jr.-trained stablemates Great Venezuela and Tiffany Gold.
Orlyana Farm’s Great Venezuela, the 9-5 morning-line favorite, has won seven of nine starts on Tapeta. Lean Entertainment’s Tiffany Gold, who is rated second at 2-1 on the morning line, came off an 11-month layoff to capture a five-furlong optional claiming allowance on turf May 24. The 5-year-old daughter of Speightstown has a victory and a runner-up finish in her only two starts on the all-weather surface.
Palm Beach Racing V LLC’s Miss Mary Nell, who has five wins on Tapeta, all around two turns, will seek her first one-turn victory from only three sprint opportunities. The daughter of Girvin, rated third on the morning line at 4-1, will carry 122 pounds.
Roxy, Jokes Up, Corbet’s Crush, Tree C’s Kai and Vindicate Cha Cha round out the field.
Well-Traveled Reef Runner Gets Break After G1 Jaipur Score
Alex and JoAnn Lieblong’s Reef Runner, who established himself as a Grade 1 stakes winner in the Jaipur (G1) at Saratoga last Saturday, is likely to race next in the Aug. 9 Troy (G2) at Saratoga Race Course.
“I think it will be the Troy, which is two months from now,” trainer David Fawkes said.
“I’ll be honest with you, between running in Saudi Arabia and running in Dubai and then coming back home to run so big in New York, I’m not in a big rush to run him back in 10 days, if you know what I mean. I’m going to give him a little extra time.”
Reef Runner kicked off his 2026 campaign with a victory in the $2 million 1351 Turf Sprint (G2) at King Abdulaziz Racecourse Feb. 14 before checking in fourth in the $1.5 million Al Quoz Turf Sprint (G1) at Meydan Racecourse March 28. Despite experiencing bumping out of the gate, the homebred son of The Big Beast raced forwardly in the 5 ½-furlong Jaipur before kicking in late to win by a half-length.
The $300,000 Troy for 3-year-olds and up will be contested at 5 ½ furlongs on the turf.
Reef Runner earned an automatic berth in the Oct. 31 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) at Keeneland with his victory in the Jaipur.
Christophe Soumillon Has Royal Ascot Mount on Celtic Dispute
Trainer Patrick Biancone has awarded the mount on Celtic Dispute to Christophe Soumillon for Wednesday’s Queen Mary (G2), the first major stakes of next week’s Royal Ascot meeting at Ascot Racecourse.
Soumillon, a 10-time champion in France, replaces Luis Saez, who rode Celtic Dispute to victory in the May 9 Royal Palm Juvenile at Gulfstream Park to earn an automatic entry into one of six juvenile stakes at Royal Ascot. Although the daughter of Leinster beat the boys at Gulfstream, she will run against the girls in the Queen Mary, for which she is listed at 25-1 in a field of 46 entered for the five-furlong turf dash.
Last year, Biancone finished third in the Queen Mary with Lennilu, who won the Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies at Gulfstream.
“Gulfstream's organization is very helpful for the trainers, and when we go abroad, outside of the country like that, they help us very well – very much,” said Biancone, who has been happily based year-round at Gulfstream’s Palm Meadows Training Center in Palm Beach County for the past 10 years. “It is a very good atmosphere in Florida. We live under the sun, and life is very different than everywhere else.”
Herrera Records Sixth Consecutive Multi-Win Racing Day
Jockey Diego Herrera recorded his sixth consecutive multi-win racing day Saturday with three trips to the winner’s circle at Gulfstream Park. The 22-year-old up-and-coming rider was awarded the victory aboard Mitts ($12) via the disqualification of first-place finisher Watson in Race 2 before scoring aboard Plagne Champagne ($8) in Race 5.amd Turkish Flame ($6.60) in Race 7.
While collecting 17 victories during the six-day streak, Herrera has closed to within two wins of Royal Palm Meet leader Samy Camacho, who rode his 51st winner of the meet aboard Jackpot Cree ($8.60) in Race 1. Despite his best efforts to keep Watson from drifting out, Camacho would be denied a daily double sweep in Race 2 with the victory going to Herrera and Mitts.
After being declared the winner of the five-furlong maiden special weight race on the main track, Mitts became the first winner of stallion Gretzky the Great, an Ontario-bred son of Nyquist who won the 2020 Summer Stakes (G1) at Woodbine for Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse. Gretzky the Great stands at Ocala Stud.
Sunday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $125,000
The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $125,000 Sunday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager went unsolved Saturday for the fifth racing day following a mandatory payout.
Sunday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9, headlined by the $70,000 Little Miss Holly in Race 8, a 5 ½-furlong overnight handicap for fillies and mares on Tapeta.
In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. On mandatory payout days, the entire pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors holding tickets with the most winners in the six-race sequence.
