Player-Friendly Bets Highlight 11-Race Card

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Gulfstream Park will be back in ‘action’ Saturday, when live racing returns with an 11-race card featuring player-friendly multi-race bets with a low takeout and the potential to produce high-payoffs.

Gulfstream’s refreshed wagering menu introduced three new multi-race bets with a 15-percent takeout Monday and will add a fourth player-friendly multi-race wager Saturday. The $1 Gulfstream Summer Sweep Pick 5 will debut Saturday and will be offered every racing day through Sept. 20.

The new multi-race, multi-track, retail-only wager with a 15-percent takeout will include races from Gulfstream and Parx this Saturday, beginning with Gulfstream’s Race 8, followed by Races 10 and 11 at Parx and Races 10 and 11 at Gulfstream. The sequence will start at 4:15 p.m. and conclude at 5:48 p.m.

Rotating partners participating in the Summer Sweep Pick 5 will include Woodbine, Horseshoe Indianapolis, Emerald Downs and Fort Erie.

On Monday, the $5 Players Late Double, linking the last two races, paid $961.00; the $3 Players Late Pick 3, a $3 base wager that covers the final three races, returned $2,069.10; and the $1 Players Place Pick 8, which requires the bettor to build a ticket with the winner or second-place finisher in each of the last eight races, returned $5,038.10.

On Saturday, the $5 Players Late Double will include a 6 ½-furlong optional claiming allowance for fillies and mares in Race 10 and a mile allowance for Florida-bred 3-year-olds and up on turf in Race 11. Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Cooey, the 2-1 Race 10 morning-line favorite in a field of nine, adds blinkers while dropping down from a fourth against stakes company. Chad Stewart-trained Permian Basin, rated second at 3-1, finished second, beaten a head, in the seven-furlong Azalea last time out. In an evenly matched field of eight entered in Race 11, Ron Spatz-trained Jack Kerouac, a three-time winner on turf, rejoins state-bred company with hot-riding Leonel Reyes and the addition of blinkers. David Fawkes-trained High Lateen will be looking to follow up an impressive maiden score in his recent turf debut.

Saturday’s $3 Players Pick 3 will be kicked off by a six-furlong maiden special weight for state-bred 3-year-olds and up in Race 9. The seven-horse field includes a pair of last-out second-place finishers and three last-out third-place finishers.

Saturday’s $1 Players Place Pick 8 will span races 4-11.

The fan-favorite 20-cent Rainbow starts anew Saturday following a mandatory payout Monday that yielded multiple payoffs of $48,609. ‘Mandatory Mondays’ will continue through Aug. 31.

Saturday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 6-11, featuring the $70,000 Lady’s Island Handicap in Race 8.

Le Amazonia, one of three Victor Barboza Jr.-trained entrants in the field of eight fillies and mares assembled for the five-furlong overnight handicap on turf, is the 5-2 morning-line favorite. The four-year-old daughter of Practical Joke returns from a tree-month layoff that followed a runner-up finish in a five-furlong handicap on turf won by Miss Vyvyenne, who went on to win the Highland Stakes (G2) at Woodbine.

In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. On mandatory payout days, the entire pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors holding tickets with the most winners in the six-race sequence.
