Gulfstream Returns Friday with Coast-to-Coast and Sunset Six

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Live racing returns to Gulfstream Park Friday with a nine-race program and the 1/ST Coast-to-Coast Pick 5 and Sunset Six with Santa Anita Park.

First race post at Gulfstream Friday is 12:20 p.m. ET. Santa Anita first post is 4 p.m. ET.

The retail-only Coast-to-Coast begins with Races 8 and 9 at Gulfstream before heading west for Races 3, 4 and 6 at Santa Anita. Race 8, an allowance optional claimer for fillies and mares at seven furlongs, features Jestina, who will be seeking her fifth consecutive victory after winning her last four by a total of 17 lengths for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.

Race 9, a $50,000 maiden optional claimer scheduled for five furlongs on the turf, drew a field of nine including first-time starters Shezawildone (Joseph), Grand Bella (Victor Barboza Jr.), and Calyptra (Joe Orseno), along with Winning Defense (David Fawkes), who has a second and two thirds in her last three starts. Fawkes has won with five of his nine starters (56 percent) at the Sunshine Meet, with one second and one third.

Santa Anita’s Race 3 features seven evenly matched filly and mare claimers while Races 4 and 6 are scheduled on the turf. Race 6, a mile event for 3-year-olds and up, drew a field of six including Del Mar Derby third-place finisher Jordi Bear and Piedra Fria, an impressive debut winner for Doug O’Neill Aug. 21.

The Sunset Six will once again feature the last three races at Gulfstream and Santa Anita. The final leg of the sequence, Race 8 at Santa Anita, is a maiden special weight event for 2-year-old fillies at six furlongs on the turf.

Gulfstream’s 20-cent Rainbow 6 will begin with Race 4, a claiming event for fillies and mares at six furlongs. The popular multi-race wager begins anew after producing multiple mandatory payouts of $263.68 Sept. 20.

In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. On mandatory payout days, the entire pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors holding tickets with the most winners in the six-race sequence.
