HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The $1 Gulfstream Summer Sweep Pick 5, an innovative Pick 5 wager combining races from Gulfstream and a partner track, made its debut Saturday, when the sequence included Gulfstream’s Race 8, followed by Races 10 and 11 at Parx, and Races 10 and 11 at Gulfstream. The player-friendly retail-only wager with a 15-percent takeout returned $710.10.

A most noteworthy sequence for Sunday’s $1 Gulfstream Summer Sweep Pick 5 will start with Gulfstream’s Races 7 and 8, followed by Woodbine’s Races 8 and 9, and conclude with Gulfstream’s Race 10. The sequence will kick off at 3:38 p.m. and will finish at 5:24 p.m.

Gulfstream’s Race 7, a 1 1/16-mile optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up on turf drew a field of nine, including 8-5 morning-line favorite Name It, trainer Jimmy Toner’s hope for a 900th career victory. Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Mediterranean Sea is scheduled to make a highly anticipated debut in Gulfstream’s Race 8, a six-furlong maiden special weight for 3-year-olds. The son of Into Mischief, who was a $1 million purchase at the 2025 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds-n-training sale, has been training forwardly at Palm Meadows, Gulfstream’s satellite training facility in Palm Beach County in preparation for his debut for Tagermeen Racing, which will also be represented by Al Loud, a former Todd Pletcher trainee who will make his first start for Joseph with the addition of blinkers.

Kevin Attard-trained Sultana is the 2-1 morning-line favorite for Woodbine’s Race 8, the mile Nassau (G3) for fillies and mares on turf. The daughter of 2017 Florida Derby (G1) and Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Always Dreaming is coming off a layoff since capturing the Orchid (G3) at Gulfstream March 28.

Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse will be represented by two highly regarded contenders in a field of 12 3-year-olds entered in Woodbine’s Race 9, the mile Plate Trial for Canadian-breds on Tapeta – Military Time (2-1), a multiple stakes-placed son of Gun Runner, and Casson (7-2), a stakes-winning son of Caravaggio

Gulfstream’s Race 10 is six-furlong allowance for state-bred 3-year-olds that drew an evenly-matched field of nine with a morning-line favorite priced at 4-1, that being Steve Klesaris-trained Lock and Load, who finished second at this level last time out. Joe Orseno-trained Sticky McShnickens, who has finished in the money in 15 of 20 lifetime starts on turf or Tapeta with only one win, will make his dirt debut following a ‘bullet’ workout on Gulfstream’s main track.

All three Gulfstream races in the Summer Sweep Pick 5 sequence are included in the $1 Players Place Pick 8 sequence that will span Races 3-10. The Players Place Pick 8 is a $1 base wager with a 15-percent takeout that requires the bettor to build a ticket with the winner or runner-up finisher in each of the last eight races on the program. If the multi-race wager goes unsolved the pool is carried over to the following racing day.

Race 10 will be the final leg of the $3 Players Late Pick 3 (Races 8-10) and the $5 Players Late Double (Races 9-10), a pair of well-received newly instituted 15-percent wagers.

20-Cent Rainbow 6 Mandatory Payout Set for Monday

‘Mandatory Mondays’ continues with a mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool Monday at Gulfstream Park.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved Saturday following last Monday’s mandatory payout that yielded multiple payoffs of $48,609.

Sunday’s jackpot pool expected to grow to an estimated $100,000.

Camacho Rides 4 Winners, Tied for Standings Lead

Idle for nearly two weeks, jockey Samy Camacho return to action with a vengeance Saturday at Gulfstream Park, where he rode four winners to finish the day in a tie with Diego Herrera for the standings lead for the Royal Palm Meet jockey standings.

Camacho scored aboard Mon Coquette ($5.80) in Race 2, Mish ($5.40) in Race 4 and Freedom Street ($19) in Race 5, to pull even with Herrera, 68-68, before guiding Jalapeno ($4.80) to a front-running victory in Race 9 to move into the lead.

Herrera came back to move back into a tie with Camacho with a win aboard High Lateen ($5.40) in Race 11.

The meet’s leading trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. was represented in the Gulfstream winner’s circle Saturday by three winners, most notably Girvy Girl ($3.20), a dazzling debut winner in Race 7. Purchased for $475,000 at the OBS March 2-year-olds-in-training sale, Girvy Girl and jockey Micah Husbands were in control throughout the six-furlong maiden special weight for juvenile fillies, scoring by 15 lengths in 1:12 61. Jockey Micah Husbands rode Mish in Race 4 and Cooey ($7.20) in Race 10 for Joseph.
