Gulfstream, Woodbine Parter for Sunday’s $1 Summer Sweep Pick 5

Retail-Only Wager’s Sequence Headlined by the Warrior’s Pride Handicap
Sunday’s 20-cent Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $75,000

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Gulfstream Park and Woodbine Racetrack will once again partner for the $1 Gulfstream Summer Sweep Pick 5 Sunday

The Summer Sweep, a retail-only, player-friendly multi-race wager with a 15-percent takeout, will include three races at Gulfstream and two at Woodbine during a 3:05 p.m.- 4:19 p.m. time span.

Gulfstream’s Race 6, a 5 1/2-furlong $25,000 maiden claimer for 2-year-old fillies, kicks off the Summer Sweep sequence, followed by the $70,000 Warrior’s Pride, a five-furlong overnight handicap for 3-year-olds and up with Joe Orseno-trained 3-1 morning-line favorite Mattingly returning from a layoff as a first-time gelding.

The action picks up in Woodbine’s Race 6, a six-furlong optional claiming allowance on Tapeta for 3-year-olds and up that drew an evenly matched 6-horse field. Gulfstream follows with a six-furlong $10,000 claimer for fillies and mares in Race 8, in which Gustavo Delgado-trained 8-5 morning-line favorite Alongcomesawoman drops from starters allowance company.

Woodbine’s Race 7 closes out the Summer Sweep sequence with a seven-furlong optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up on turf. Trainer Kevin Attard is represented by 2-1 morning-line favorite Two Out Hero, a Grade 1 stakes-placed stakes winner on turf.

Sunday’s 20-cent Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $75,000

The 20-cent Rainbow 5 jackpot pool is expected to row to an estimate $75,000 Sunday at Gulfstream Park, where he popular multi-race wager went unsolved Saturday on the first racing day following last Monday’s mandatory payout.

The Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9. kicked off by 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight for 2-year-old Florida-breds on the main track. Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Dockside will make a debut off a string of harp workouts. The sequence will be headlined by the $70,000 Warrior’s Pride, a five-furlong overnight handicap for 3-year-olds and up on turf in Race 7. Trainer Joe Orseon is represented by a pair of top contenders n the field; Mattingly, the 3-1 morning-line favorite who will race for the first time as a gelding, an Extendo, a 6-year-old warrior who has earned more than $340,000. The Rainbow 6 sequence will be closed out in Race 9 by a mile maiden special weight for Florida-bred fillies and mares, including Patrick Biancone-trained Elenique, the 5-2 morning-line favorite who is coming off a close-up runner-up finish last time out.

In the Rainbow 6 the jackpot pool is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

On mandatory payout days, the entire pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors holding tickets with the most winners in the six-race sequence.

A mandatory Rainbow 6 payout is scheduled for every Monday through the month of August.

NOTES: Diego Herrera and Samy Camacho are tied, 76-76, in the race for the Royal Palm Meet riding title. Herrera ride one winner Saturday, Hands of Time ($7.80) in Race 1. Camacho scored aboard Surf’s Up ($4.40) in Race 5 and Readier ($8.20) in Race 9. Camacho is not down to ride Sunday or Monday. Herrera will be at Mountaineer Park Sunday to ride Gulfstream-based Mogul in the $200,000 West Viriginia’s Governor’s Stakes and Wayne’s Law in the $400,000 West Virigina Derby (G3). Both horses are trained by Amador Sanchez. Herrera will return to Gulfstream Monday to ride five horses, including Spicy Taco in the $100,000 In Summation Stakes. The Royal Palm Meet runs through Aug. 31… Promising apprentice Pedro Pena bounced back from a Race 1 mishap, in which he was unseated when his mount reared up leaving the starting gate. Pena came right back to win Race 3 aboard Queen Kwaina ($20) and Race 4 aboard Terrimendous ($4) in Race 5.
