Gulfstream, Woodbine Partner for Saturday’s Summer Sweep Pick 5

Sequence Includes Gulfstream’s Black Diamond Cat

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The $1 Gulfstream Summer Sweep Pick 5 will travel north of the border Saturday, when Gulfstream Park will partner with Woodbine for the player-friendly multi-race wager with a 15-percent takeout.

The Summer Sweep sequence, which begins at approximately 2:56 ET, will include three races from Gulfstream and two from Woodbine.

Races 6 and 7 on Gulfstream’s program will kick off the sequence. Chloe’s Toy, the 9-5 morning-line favorite who is riding a three-race win streak under a $10,000 claiming tag, makes her first start off the claim for trainer Sebastian Pulgarin in Race 6, a 5 ½-furlong $10,000 claimer for fillies and mares on Tapeta. Leading riders Diego Herrera and Samy Camacho, who are tied with 71 wins each at the top of the Royal Palm Meet jockey standings, will be aboard Misprint (5-2) and Any Moment (5-1), respectively. A very evenly matched field of seven fillies and mares has been assembled for Race 7, a five-furlong starter allowance on turf that may prove the most challenging of the Summer Sweep sequence. Lauren Robson-trained Viking Quest will be looking to follow up a starter allowance win on Tapeta with Camacho aboard. Amande enters the race with a $17,000 claiming win off the claim by Jose D’Angelo.

Woodbine’s Race 6, a 5 1/2-furlong restricted maiden special weight for Ontario-bred 2-year-old fillies on Tapeta, follows. Hall of Famer Mark Casse-trained March is the 3-1 morning-line favorite in a full field of 12 and an also-eligible based on her much improved runner-up finish in her second career start. Stuart Simon-trained Sweet Bordeaux, who set a pressured pace from the rail post before weakening to third, drew an outside post for her return. Casse-trained Willing Guest finished fourth while racing extremely wide in her return start from a runner-up finish in her debut.

Back at Gulfstream, a well-matched field of seven has been entered for Race 8, the $70,000 Black Diamond Cat, a mile overnight handicap for 3-year-olds and up. David Fawkes-trained Viking, a 4 1/2-length winner of the Smile Sprint last time out, is the 4-5 morning-line favorite. Bobby Dibona-trained Steal Sunshine, a Grade 2-winning warrior, is always in the hunt. Fausto Gutierrez-trained Rolando finished off-the-board in the Smile Sprint but turned in a dead-game victory in Big Drama Stakes in his previous start.

Josie Carroll-trained Ludicrous, the 5-2 morning-line favorite, returns from a brief freshening in Race 7, an optional claiming allowance for fillies and mares on Tapeta that will close out the sequence, following a convincing victory at this level. Robert Tiller-trained Minimum Forty, a winner of three of five career starts, will look to improve on an off-the-board finish in a stakes in which she raced extremely wide.
