HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Gulfstream Park’s Royal Palm Meet resumes with a 10-race program Saturday highlighted by a stakes-filled sequence in the $1 Summer Sweep Pick 5 with partner Woodbine Racetrack.

Post time is 12:20 p.m.

The Summer Sweep, a retail only, player-friendly multi-race wager featuring a 15 percent takeout, gets started with the final three races at Gulfstream. Race 8 is a 1 1/16-mile Florida-bred allowance scheduled for 3-year-olds and up on the grass led by 9-5 program favorite Redland Rebels. The 3-year-old was second by a neck at the course and distance in the Jan. 31 Kitten’s Joy. Dr. Jekyll returns to the turf after graduating in an open 1 1/8-mile maiden special weight on Tapeta June 7.

Race 9 is the $100,000 Sheer Drama Handicap, local prep for Gulfstream’s $250,000 Princess Rooney (G3) Sept. 12, a ‘Win and You’re In’ qualifier for the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1). The solid field of eight includes the top three finishers from the June 27 Musical Romance – Kerry’s Kiss, Indy Bay and Just a Philly – as well as Domino Vitali, last-out runner-up in the May 16 Serena’s Song at Monmouth Park, and Chilean Group 1 winner Bombacha Veloz.

Gulfstream’s Race 10 finale is a starter optional claimer scheduled for a two-turn mile on the grass for 3-year-olds and up that drew a wide-open field of 10. Trainer Jimmy Toner, who won his 900th career race with Siege of Boston in the Aug. 2 Empire Builder overnight handicap, sends out Name It in search of a third career win after being beaten a neck in two of his three prior starts. Malcolm X ran third by less than a length in a similar spot going 1 1/16 miles July 19.

The Summer Sweep wraps up with Races 9 and 10 at Woodbine. Race 9 is the $150,000 Catch a Glimpse for 2-year-old fillies sprinting 6 ½ furlongs on the grass led by Ghost Me, undefeated in two starts including the July 12 My Dear going 5 ½ furlongs on Woodbine’s Tapeta, and My Dear runner-up Mrs D, who was beaten 1 ¼ lengths after taking a lead into the stretch. Liberty Beach and Meloni both exit maiden special weight wins.

Race 10 is the $1 million King’s Plate for 3-year-olds foaled in Canada set for 1 ¼ miles on the Tapeta. Knicks Go filly Luster is the even-money program favorite over 11 rivals having won four of five career starts including the 1 1/16-mile Selene (G3) and 1 1/8-mile Woodbine Oaks back-to-back this summer. Among her challengers are Brachetto, winner of the 1 1/16-mile Marine (G3) June 27, and six runners from the 1 1/8-mile Plate Trial July 19 including the top three finishers Highwaytothemoon, Imyourmedicineman and Military Time.

Gulfstream’s 20-cent Rainbow 6 begins anew after producing multiple mandatory payouts of $7,639.26 Monday. The sequence spans Races 5-10, starting with a seven-furlong allowance for Florida-bred 3-year-olds and up featuring Arindel homebred Jalapeno, who graduated over elders at the course and distance July 18, and Sticky McShnickens, second or third in 15 of 21 career starts.

Race 7 is a five-furlong maiden special weight for 2-year-olds where six of the seven horses are first-time starters including Messi’s Magic, a $165,000 son of Maclean’s Music, and $100,000 Cross Traffic yearling Mitzman. Subtle Sir is the lone horse with racing experience, having run fifth in an Aug. 1 maiden special weight sprinting five furlongs on the Gulfstream turf.

Samy Camacho and Diego Herrera enter the weekend tied atop the jockey standings with 76 wins apiece, while Saffie Joseph Jr. holds a 38-30 win edge over Victor Barboza Jr. among trainers. The Royal Palm Meet runs through Monday, Aug. 31.
