Gulfstream’s Mandatory Payout of Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Set for Sunday

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – A mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be held Sunday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager went unsolved Saturday for the third racing day since being solved for a $29,308.54 jackpot payoff Sept. 4.

The jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $750,000.

Sunday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9 and will kick off with a 6 1/2-furlong $10,000 claimer for fillies and mares in Race 4. Beau Chapman-trained Mithril is coming off a pair of strong efforts after breaking from the rail post position and could benefit from moving a couple stalls to the outside in the starting gate. Jose Castro-trained Gullfaxi just missed while dropping to Sunday’s level last time out.

In Race 5, a mile maiden special weight for 3-year-olds and up on turf, Ron Spatz-trained 7-5 morning-line favorite Jean Laffite makes his return from a strong runner-up finish in his debut at five furlongs on turf. Heather Smullen-trained Coristine, a son of Liam’s Map, will be equipped with blinkers and sent to the turf course after a pair of steady showings over the main track.

Jose D’Angelo-trained Oxar is the 9-5 morning-line favorite for Race 6, a mile-and-70-yard $10,000 claimer for fillies and mares on Tapeta, for her first start off the claim following a troubled fourth-place finish against better. Victor Barboza Jr.-trained Melody Factor makes her first start off the claim after finishing a close-up second following a slow start.

Patrick Biancone-trained Redland Rebels is the 5-2 morning-line favorite for Race 7, a mile first-level optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up on turf. The gelding is coming off an impressive 2 3/4-length victory against state-breds. Paris Surprise has turned in a couple of solid in-the-money efforts since joining Barboza’s stable.

Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. is represented by two significant drop-downs in Race 8, a 6 1/2-furlong $10,000 claimer for 3-year-olds and up. Ruleroftheuniverse, the 8-5 morning-line favorite, drops from a runner-up finish in a $25,000 claimer while returning from a five-month layoff off a series of solid workouts. R Delray makes his second start off the claim while dropping from an off-the-board finish in a state-bred allowance.

A mile $17,500 claimer for fillies and mares on turf wraps up the Rainbow 6 sequence in Race 9. David Fawkes-trained Getaholdayourself, who makes her first start off the claim, is the morning-line favorite in an evenly matched field of eight. Chapman-trained Role Play looks to improve off a pair of runner-up finishes at Sunday’s level.

In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

On mandatory payout days, the entire pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors holding tickets with the most winners in the six-race sequence.

Races 7, 8 and 9 will also be included in Sunday’s $1 Gulfstream Summer Sweep Pick 5, which will also include Races 7 and 9 at Woodbine.

Woodbine’s Race 7 is the $150,000 Bull Page, a 6 1/2-furlong stakes on Tapeta for 2-year-old colts and geldings sired by Ontario stallions. William Tharrenos-trained Souper Survivor, the even-money favorite, and Dale Desruisseaux-trained Longshot Leo, rated second at 9-5, head in a field of six after finishing a nose apart while second and third, respectively, in a stakes last time out.

The $150,000 Victorian Queen, a 6 1/2-furlong Tapeta stakes for 2-year-old fillies sired by Ontario stallions, wraps up the Summer Sweep in Race 9 at Woodbine. James Begg-trained Sarayu a wide fourth in an open stakes last time out, and a pair of last-out maiden winners Tino Attard-trained Princess Orlaith and Steven Chircop-trained Stunningly Perfect are prominent in a field of seven.

The Summer Sweep Pick 5, which will be contested between 3:32 and 5:17 p.m., is a retail-only wager with a 15-percent takeout.
