Race 5: One mile (turf), 3-year-olds and up, $35,000 claimer
A competitive field of 10 travel the green including graded stakes-placed Tocayo (5-2, Tyler Gaffalione), seven-time turf winner Sky’s Not Falling (3-1, John Velazquez), and Brigade Commander (7-2, Javier Castellano).
Tocayo, trained by Jose D’Angelo, won last year’s Dania Beach at Gulfstream and was third in the Kitten’s Joy (G3). Meanwhile, Brigade Commander, also trained by D’Angelo, won a starter optional claimer over the summer at Saratoga. Sky’s Not Falling has two wins over Gulfstream’s turf for trainer Michael Trombetta. American Farmer goes out for the first time since August of 2024 for new trainer Sam Wilensky.
Race 6: 1 1/16 miles (turf), 2-year-old fillies, maiden special weight
A dozen juvenile fillies go out on the turf first-time starter Wine On Sunday is a tepid 3-1 favorite. Trained by Brian Lynch, Tyler Gaffalione is named to ride the daughter of Not This Time out of the unraced Awesome Again mare Devine Teresa.
D’Angelo sends out two more here in Dirty Diana (12-1, Samy Camacho) and Mia Familia (8-1, Edgard Zayas). Dirty Diana brought $210,000 at auction while Mia Familia was purchased for $100,000. Trainer Mark Casse will saddle Elegant Charm (5-1, Edwin Gonzalez), a $330,000 daughter of Good Magic who was fifth in her debut Nov. 29 at five furlongs on Tapeta. Nicholas Vaccareza will saddle Serralunga (20-1, Edgar Perez), a $250,000 daughter of Maxfield.
Race 7: 6 furlongs (main track), 3-year-olds and up, $6,250 claimer
A field of seven claimers with a 7-5 favorite taking a class drop in Swirvin (Gonzalez), who will attempt to win his first race in nine attempts dating back to May of 2024.
Race 8: 1 1/16 miles (turf), fillies and mares, allowance optional claimer
Joseph Allen’s lightly raced homebred Random Harvest (2-1, Jorge Ruiz) returns from a seven-month layoff. The daughter of Uncle Mo has two wins, a second and third in four turf starts for trainer James Toner. Silver Moonlight (5-2, Micah Husbands) has won four of five across Gulfstream’s turf for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. Mama Bella (3-1, Velazquez), is 1-2-1 in his last four starts with a second-place finish last out on the grass. Miguel Clement saddles Eternal Silence (6-1, Gaffalione), who drew the rail, while Amie’s Symphony (10-1, Horacio Karamanos) seeks her fourth win on the turf in her last five starts. Trombetta trains.
Race 9: 6 furlongs (main track), fillies and mares $8,000 claimer
Another cheap claimer with a heavy favorite in Maerdama (7-5, Gaffalione), a lightly-raced 5-year-old for Joseph who drops in class. Shelovestotravel (5-1, Yolber Torres), also drops in class for D’Angelo. This marks her fifth start.
Race 10: One mile (turf), 3-year-olds and up, $17,500 claimer
A dozen go to post and it’s a competitive group. Jurisprudence (6-1, Zayas) is bound to get support coming from the barn of Chad Brown, but the son of Constitution drew post 11. Eton (2-1, Gaffalione) won on the turf here last winter. The gelding has since switched barns twice. Carlos David saddles Eton and Simo (12-1, Junior Alvarado), a daughter of Khozan who just missed last out on Tapeta and makes her turf debut. Try to Make Cents (8-1, David Egan) goes out for the first time since being trained by David Fawkes.
