Gulfstream’s Summer Sweep Pick 5 Begins Saturday

Retail Only, Low Takeout Wager Features Three Stakes, Two Turf Races

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Gulfstream Park’s Summer Sweep Pick 5, a retail only, $1 wager featuring multi-tracks and a player-friendly 15-percent takeout, debuts Saturday, July 18 with three stakes, two turf races, and competitive fields from Gulfstream and Parx.

The Summer Sweep 5 begins at 4:15 ET at Gulfstream with Race 8, the $70,000 Lady’s Island at five furlongs on the turf. The sequence also includes the $100,000 Storm Cat and $100,000 Dr. Teresa Garofalo Memorial and concludes at 5:48 ET with a mile allowance event on the turf at Gulfstream.

The Summer Sweep Pick 5 is one of four new player-friendly wagers recently introduced at Gulfstream. They include the $3 Players Late Pick 3, $5 Players Late Double, and $1 Place Pick 8. There will also be a mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 every Monday through August 31.

Saturday’s Summer Sweep Pick 5:

Gulfstream Race 8: Trainer Victor Barboza Jr. holds a strong hand in the Lady’s Island with three starters, including the 5-year-old mares Tiffany Gold and Great Venezuela, who have 14 wins from 32 combined starts. Great Venezuela has placed in five of six starts at the distance with two wins while Tiffany Gold has won four of eight starts at the distance. Meanwhile, Barboza’s other starter, Le Amazonia, comes into the race off a three-month break. Coco Abarrio goes out for Carlos Perez after finishing third in April at Keeneland on the turf at 5 ½ furlongs. Trainer David Fawkes, who’s winning at a 26-percent clip this meet, sends out Greenfield Cougar.

Parx, Race 10: The Storm Cat, at a mile and 70 yards, drew a field of six including Bartlett. The John Servis-trained son of Not This Time has finished third three times and second once since returning from an eight-month layoff. The 5-year-old is four of five at the distance and four of seven at Parx. Uncle Heavy enters off a ninth-place finish in May at Penn National in the Alphabet Soup, but that was the 5-year-olds first race on turf. As a 3-year-old Uncle Heavy won the Withers (G3), was third in the Smarty Jones and fourth in the Pennsylvania Derby (G1).

Parx Race 11: The Garofalo Memorial, for Pennsylvania bred fillies and mares going seven furlongs, drew a field of 10 with Carmelina being the possible betting favorite. The 5-year-old enters off a second-place finish in the Rehoboth at Delaware after winning the Unique Bella at Parx by 3 ½ lengths. Foxy Junior enters off a 5 ½ length victory against allowance optional claimers last time out.

Gulfstream Race 10: Fillies and mares go 6 ½ furlongs on the main track in this allowance optional claimer event and leading trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. sends out two 4-year-old fillies in Cooey and Dominant Diva. Fourth in the Musical Romance June 27, Cooey will attempt to win her first race since November of 2025. Dominant Diva won at Tampa in April 1 before finishing eighth April 30 when shipped to Oaklawn. Permian Basin enters after losing by just a head June 20 in Gulfstream’s Azalea.

Gulfstream Race 11: The Summer Sweep Pick 5 concludes on the turf with a wide-open state-bred allowance race for 3-year-olds and up at a mile. Lightly raced High Lateen drove away from eight others earlier this month in his turf debut and only his second career start. Laudable broke his maiden on the turf in his second career start before finishing fourth on Tapeta last time out. Dr. Jekyll broke his maiden last out over Tapeta but has run well in four previous efforts over the turf.
