Juvenile Reza Proves His Worth in Dazzling Debut at Gulfstream

Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $500,000 for Sunday’s Mandatory

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Mohamed Moubarak’s Reza may have been an RNA at the Ocala Breeders 2-year-olds-in-training sale in April, but he got all the money with the utmost of ease in his debut Sunday at Gulfstream Park.

The Tale of Silence gelding, who failed to reach his $120,000 RNA, proved to be worth the asking price and more with an explosive eight-length victory in Sunday’s first race, a five-furlong maiden special weight race for juveniles on Tapeta.

“He breezed 9-and-4 at the sale. We tried to pinhook him, me and my dad, but we didn’t get the money we thought he deserved, so we brought him back to the barn,” trainer Tareq Moubarak, the owner’s son, said. “He’s been training good. He needed some time after the sale. He’s always shown that quick speed.”

Reza ($17.40) settled in the back of the field that was scratched down to five on the backstretch before swooping into contention with a five-wide move on the far turn under Leonel Reyes. He continued on to jet past odds-on favorite Coralline in mid-stretch and draw away to an eye-catching score without the need of encouragement.

The Kentucky-bred gelding, who was purchased as a yearling for $22,000 at the 2025 Keeneland September sale, ran five furlongs in 56.75 seconds in the race that was originally scheduled to be run on turf.

“To be honest, I wanted to run on the turf. My dad owns him and he said to keep him in. We did what the old man said, and it worked out,” Moubarak said.

Reza’s sire Tale of Silence, a Charles Fipke homebred who stands in Ontario for $2500 Canadian, was a Grade 3 winner who finished second in the 2019 Gulfstream Mile (G2). The son of Tale of the Cat is out of the Japanese-bred Sunday Silence mare Silence Beauty, who was winless in three starts in Ireland for trainer Aidan O’Brien after bringing $1 million at the 1998 Keeneland July sale.

Reza is out of Pleasant Orb, a Fipke-bred daughter of Orb who broke her maiden at Gulfstream in 2000 before finishing second two starts later in the Acorn (G1) at Belmont and being retired following one more race.

The Moubaraks will consider their options for Reza’s next start.

“We’ll see how he comes out of this and go from there.” The younger Moubarak said.

Summer Wind Equine LLC’s Scottish Lass, a 2-year-old daughter of McKinzie, won at first asking in Race 8, a six-furlong maiden special weight for fillies. Scottish Lass, the even-money favorite in a field of six, pressed the pace set by Practical Bling before taking the lead turning for home and continuing on to score by 1 ¾ lengths under Rasheed Hugles.

The homebred filly is out of Grade 3 stakes winner Tapicat, who broke her maiden at Gulfstream in 2012 for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott. The Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained filly ran six furlongs in 1:12.19.

Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $500,000 for Sunday’s Mandatory

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $500,000 for Sunday’s mandatory payout at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager went unsolved Saturday for the second racing following a mandatory payout.

There will also be a Super High 5 carryover of $5,530.97.

The sequence for Sunday’s Rainbow 6 will span Races 4-9, kicked off by a 6 1/2-furlong maiden optional claimer for fillies and mares in Race 4. Diego Herrera looks to continue his winning ways with David Fawkes-trained horses aboard Forgotten About, who raced evenly to finish fifth on debut in a maiden special weight following a less than ideal start from the rail post position. Carlos David-trained Lady Rockula, the 9-5 morning-line favorite, is coming off back-to-back runner-up finishes. Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Pan Pan tries the dirt while returning from a four-month layoff since finishing a close-up second in a maiden special weight on turf.

Heather Smullen-trained Hands of Time and Herrera will seek to win their third race in a row in Race 5, a mile optional claiming starter allowance on turf. The son of Liam’s Map won for a $17,500 claiming price, once on Tapeta, once on turf, since joining Smullen’s stable. Smullen is also represented by Disattached, who will be ridden by Samy Camacho after finishing second back-to-back with Herrera aboard in $17,500 company. Steve Klesaris-trained Venezuelan Hope would figure to benefit should the be move to the Tapeta course, over which he has finished in the money in seven of eight starts with four wins.

Tareq Moubarak-trained Rose of Riyad, a $225,000 daughter of red-hot stallion Yaupon, is slated to make her debut in Race 6, a six-furlong maiden special weight for 2-year-olds. Jose D’Angelo-trained Redbad, a son of Dialed In, has breezed sharply for his debut, as has Joseph-trained Articulated, a son of Speaker’s Corner. Carlos David-trained Tommy’s Miracle returns following a distant third behind undefeated stakes winner Sum of Success in his debut.

Jena Antonucci-trained Taparino, who battled inside before settling for second last time out, appears to be a strong contender in an evenly matched field of eight entered in Race 7, a mile $10,000 claimer for 3-year-olds and up. Roger That Dana, the 2-1 morning-line favorite who finished second in the Mucho Macho Man last winter, drops to the bottom.

Michael Yates-trained Fourth and Central is coming off a pair of wins on turf and Tapeta for Race 8, an optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds scheduled to be run at five furlongs on turf. Rohan Crichton-trained Cruzin Man enters the race in top form, coming off a runner-up finish on Tapeta and a victory on turf. Hot-riding Leonel Reyes hops aboard.

Amberssohn, a son of Mendelssohn, is favored on the morning-line for Race 9, a 1 1/16-mile $12,500 maiden claimer for 3-year-olds and up on turf, following a pair of even efforts against better since joining the Smullen stable.

In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

On mandatory payout days, the entire pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors holding tickets with the most winners in the six-race sequence.
