Mandatory Rainbow 6 Payout Yields Multiple $41,598 Payoffs

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – A mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool yielded multiple $41,598.18 payoffs on Sunday’s Father’s Day program at Gulfstream Park.
The popular multi-race wager had gone unsolved for two racing days following a $110,007 jackpot hit a week ago leading up to Sunday’s mandatory payout. At the start of Rainbow 6 wagering Sunday there was a carryover of $25,262. A Total of $406,266 was wagered on Sunday’s Rainbow 6 sequence that spanned Races 4-9.
The winning combination was 4-6-2-8-7-6. There were seven winning tickets.
There were three ‘singles’ heading into Race 9. A $350,256.76 jackpot score would have been produced had either 3, 9 or 10 prevailed in the final leg.
In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. On mandatory payout days, the entire pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors holding tickets with the most winners in the six-race sequence.
The Rainbow 6 starts anew when live racing resumes Friday
Practically Dark Determined Winner of Father’s Day Feature
C2 Racing Stables, Paul Braverman and Timothy Pinch’s Practically Dark came with a steady run down the center of the track to edge past favored Latch the Hatch in mid-stretch and draw clear to a 1 ½-length optional claiming allowance victory in Sunday’s Father’s Day feature at Gulfstream Park.
Ridden by Samy Camacho for Royal Palm Meet leading trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., 5-year-old gelding Practically Dark ($8.60) covered six furlongs over fast main track in 1:09.92 for his third career win and first since back-to-back scores at the course and distance nearly two years ago.
Breaking from outermost Post 7, Camacho settled Practically Dark in fourth as 22-1 longshot Neshume went a quarter-mile in 22.03 seconds with Fourth and Central – making his first start since winning the FSS Dr. Fager last September – to his inside and 6-5 favorite Latch the Hatch in the clear three wide.
Practically Dark was tipped outside midway around the far turn and began rolling after the half-mile went in a sparkling 44.41 seconds, drawing up alongside Latch the Hatch and Neshume at the head of the lane. Racing without blinkers for the first time in six starts, Practically Dark gradually pulled away.
“I had the best post on the outside because he is a big horse with a long stride,” Camacho said. “When I saw the entries and I have Saffie, I said, ‘I got it.’ This is a great opportunity for me with him to win races and I don’t want to waste it.”
NOTES: Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse unveiled a most promising juvenile filly in Sunday’s Race 2, a five-furlong maiden special weight on Tapeta won on debut by D J Stable LLC’s Detox ($3) by 2 ¼ lengths. Ridden by Samy Camacho, Detox, who stalked the pace before kicking in powerfully through the stretch, ran five furlongs on the all-weather surface in 58.89 seconds to give first-crop sire Mandaloun his second winner. Juddmonte’s Mandaloun was placed first after finishing second in the 2021 Kentucky Derby (G1) upon the disqualification of Medina Spirit. The Brad Cox-trained son of Into Mischief, who stands for a fee of $10,000, also won the 2021 Haskell (G1) at Monmouth. Detox brought $55,000 at the 2024 Keeneland November sale. D J Stable LLC and Casse will be represented in Friday’s Race 2, a five-furlong maiden special weight for 2-year-olds on Tapeta by Vermont, a first-time starter by Vekoma.
Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Jestina ($4) scored her third-straight victory under a perfectly executed ride by Micah Husbands in Race 3, a seven-furlong starter allowance for 3-year-old fillies. Husbands held his ground without panicking aboard the striking gray Florida-bred daughter of Valiant Nature along the rail as three fillies to her outside contested the pace. When asked for her run entering the stretch, Jestina kicked away to win by three lengths.
Jockey Diego Herrera enjoyed a two-win day, scoring aboard Surfer’s Joy ($17.80) om Race 4 and Nic’s Bro ($11.20) in Race 6. The 22-year-old Southern California native has notched nine multi-race days from the last 10 racing days. …Samy Camacho made a pair of visits to the winner’s circle aboard Detox ($3) in Race 2 and Practically Dark ($8.60) in Race 8 to stay within two wins behind Herrera in the Royal Palm Meet jockey standings. … Miguel Vasquez also doubled aboard Chloe’s Toy ($8.60) in Race 1 and Longbranch Lou ($3.80) in Race 7. …Trainer Heather Smullen saddled a pair of winners: Surfer’s Joy ($17.80) in Race 4 and Mischievous Scout ($7) in Race 9, bookend winners of the Rainbow 6 sequence.
