HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – A mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool yielded multiple payoffs of $164,292.76 Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
There was one ticket live for a $3 million-plus jackpot payoff going into the final leg of the popular multi-race wager, but No. 5 Warrior Wayne finished off the board.
The Rainbow 6 had gone unsolved for 13 consecutive program since a Jan. 26 mandatory payout yielded multiple payoffs of $37,865, producing a carryover of $503,491 going into Saturday’s mandatory payout.
The healthy carryover generated a $3,272,954 Rainbow 6 handle Saturday.
The Rainbow 6 sequence spanned Races 7-12. Victory Dash ($7.20) won Race 7, followed by Bold Advance ($54.20) in Race 8, Inveigled ($31) in Race 9, Starship Agenda ($20.60) in Race 10, Dazzling Move ($9.20) in Race 11 and Governing Party ($10.40) in Race 12.
The winning combination was 6-5-2-3-7-2.
The Late Pick 5, with no winning favorites, returned $89,768.20.
On mandatory payout days, the entire Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is paid out to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the wager’s six-race sequence. The carryover jackpot is usually only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
The 20-cent Rainbow 6 will start anew Sunday. The sequence will span Races 5-10, headlined in Race 9 by a deep-in-talent optional claiming allowance at 1 1/16-miles for 4-year-olds and up. Born Noble, favored at 8-5 on the morning line in a field of eight, is slated to make his second start off the layoff for Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher. The 4-year-old son of 2014 Florida Derby (G1) and Donn Handicap (G1) winner Constitution will stretch out around two turns for the first time following a mild-closing third at six furlongs Dec. 22. Born Noble debut at Gulfstream with a 5 ½-length romp at seven furlongs Dec. 20, 2023, before losing a photo finish two months later and going to the sidelines. Irad Ortiz Jr., who was aboard for all three races, has the call. Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Catalytic, a distant runner-up in last year’s Curlin Florida Derby (G1), also returns from a promising return from a layoff. Amador Sanchez-trained The Thor is set to make his second U.S. start after coming up just a half-length short of victory in his first start since arriving from Chile.
Who’s Hot: Jockey Paco Lopez notched a four-bagger on Saturday’s program at Gulfstream Park, featuring an upset victory aboard Inveigled ($31) over highly regarded 1-5 favorite Knightsbridge in Race 9. The Jane Cibelli-trained Inveigled received a ground-saving dream journey in the mile optional claiming allowance as Knightbridge and One Sharp Cookie took part in a blistering pace-setting duel. Lopez angled Inveigled off the rail in the stretch, and the Indiana-bred 4-year-old kicked in to defeat a dead-game Knightsbridge by 1 ½ lengths.
Lopez also scored back-to-back wins aboard Speed Figures ($8.60) in Race 2 and Wildly Speedy ($51.60) in Race 3 before returning to the winner’s circle aboard Bodacious Bren ($11.60) following Race 5.
