HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Live racing resumes Saturday at Gulfstream Park with a 10-race program offering a choice of player-friendly multi-race wagering options.

When trying to keep down the cost of their multi-race tickets on Saturday, many Gulfstream handicappers will likely do so with ‘Conviction.’

Many bettors are expected to take a stand on Race 6, a maiden special weight test for Florida-bred 2-year-olds that will kick off the Late Pick 5 (Races 6-10), as well as being included in the sequences for the 20-cent Rainbow 6 (Races 5-10) and $1 Players Place Pick 8 (Races 3-10). The nine-horse field assembled for the five-furlong sprint will include Conviction, a debuting son of 2020 Curlin Florida Derby (G1) winner Tiz the Law who will likely prove to be a popular ‘single’ on multi-race tickets. Owned by MyRacehorse, Chris Coleman, Skywest Stables LLC, Martin Raizman and Nancy Stone, Conviction was purchased for $800,000 at the OBS April 2-year-olds-in-training sale.

Conviction, who has been installed as the 7-5 morning-line favorite, is out of Deep Trouble, a daughter of Into Mischief who has produced four winners from four foals, including Curtain Call, a Grade 1-placed son of Tiz the Law.

Saffie Joseph Jr. trains Conviction, who has produced a series of sharp workouts at Palm Meadows, Gulfstream’s satellite training facility in Palm Beach County, in preparation for his debut. Rasheed Hughes has the mount.

Rainbow 6, Summer Sweep Sequences Feature $100,000 Miss Gracie

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 will start anew Saturday at Gulfstream Park following last Monday’s mandatory payout. The popular multi-race wager’s sequence will span Races 5-10, headlined by the $100,000 Miss Gracie in Race 7.

The mile turf stakes for 3-year-old fillies will also kick off Saturday’s $1 Summer Sweep Pick 5, the player-friendly retail-only wager with a 15-percent takeout. Woodbine will partner with Gulfstream for Saturday’s Summer Sweep. The Miss Gracie will be followed by Woodbine’s Race 8, a 1 1/16-mile optional claiming allowance on turf for fillies and mares, and Gulfstream’s Race 9. a 6 1/2-furlong optional claiming allowance for fillies and mares. The Summer Sweep will be wrapped up by Woodbine’s Race 9, a 5 1/2-furlong optional claiming allowance for fillies and mares on Tapeta, and Gulfstream’s Race 10, a $17,500 maiden claimer for 3-year-olds and up going a mile on turf.

The Miss Gracie drew a field of eight evenly matched fillies headed by Patrick Biancone-trained Laigina, the 2-1 morning-line favorite who will be seeking her first stakes success following several in-the-money finishes in stakes.

Camacho Has Opportunity to Gain Ground on Absent Herrera

Diego Herrera holds an 81-76 lead in the race for the Royal Palm Meet riding title, but archrival Samy Camacho will have an opportunity to cut into that lead Saturday. Herrera will be riding at Del Mar, where he will be reunited with British Isles in the $1 million Pacific Classic (G1).

Richard Baltas-trained British Isles provided Herrera with his first Grade 1 success with a 4 1/2-length victory in the March 7 Santa Anita Handicap (G1). Herrera, who had ventured from Southern California to Gulfstream to ride British Isles to an even fifth-place finish in the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) Jan. 28, switched his tack to Gulfstream full time in late March. The up-and-coming 22-year-old jockey has mounts at Gulfstream Sunday and Monday on the next-to-last weekend of the Royal Palm Meet that runs through Aug. 31.

Camacho has nine mounts on Gulfstream’s 10-race Saturday program, including Carlos David-trained Call the Bullpen in the $100,000 Miss Gracie, a mile turf stakes for 3-year-old fillies. Call the Bullpen will be looking to breakthrough with a victory following three straight runner-up finishes.
