$60,000 Chasing Artie, Daring Kathy Handicaps on Turf Saturday

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to reach $50,000 when the fall Sunshine Meet resumes with a nine-race program Friday at Gulfstream Park.

Friday’s Rainbow 6 spans Races 4-9. The popular multi-race wager was solved by one lucky bettor Saturday for a $90,495.60 jackpot payout.

An optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds going a one-turn mile on the main track in Race 8 serves as the Friday feature. Arabia Wild, Ez Orb Not and Gregarious all come off wins, while Azam was beaten a neck as the favorite last out July 26 in his first start since a fifth-place finish in the May 9 Peter Pan (G3).

Racing actions continues Saturday at Gulfstream with a pair of $60,000 overnight handicaps scheduled for the turf – the Daring Kathy for fillies and mares 3 and older going 1 1/16 miles and the Chasing Artie for 3-year-olds and up sprinting five furlongs.

The Daring Kathy will feature the top three finishers from the Sept. 12 Ginger Punch – Miss Mary Nell, Fantasy Performer and Defiant Lass – along with stakes winners Turino, Souper Zonda, Crafty Collector, Lets Go Koko and Vincey Girl.

Mattingly and Esperon, respectively first and third last out in the Bob Umphrey Sprint Sept. 12; stakes winners Souper Quest, Naughty Rascal, Guns Loaded, Extendo and Rouki; and Grade 2-placed Axthelm, racing first time in 14 months for new trainer Bobby Dibona, are among the full field of 12.

In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

On mandatory payout days, the entire pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors holding tickets with the most winners in the six-race sequence. Another mandatory payout is scheduled for Sunday.
