HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Tagermeen Racing LLC’s Remember the Time delivered a maiden-breaking performance that will be hard to forget Sunday at Gulfstream Park, where the 2-year-old son of Not This Time graduated by 8 1/4 lengths with speed to spare.
Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., Remember the Time was sent to the starting gate as the 3-5 favorite in a field of nine 2-year-olds assembled for Race 6, a mile maiden special weight on turf. The $400,000 purchase at the 2025 Keeneland September sale, who was ridden Sunday by Micah Husbands, had raced once previously, a second-place finish Sept. 9 at Kentucky Douns.
“We were really happy with the way he ran the first time at Kentucky Downs, obviously. He stumbled a little bit and came back and ran a huge race there. That race moved him forward and gave him a lot of experience,” said assistant trainer Sabine Langvad, who saddled Remember the Time Sunday in the absence of Joseph, who was in Kentucky preparing for next weekend’s Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland. “Saffie didn’t tell Micah much. He just told him to ride him like a good horse, and I think he did.”
Remember the Time was in control throughout the mile maiden that was run over a turf course rated ‘good,’ setting fractions of 23.89 and 48.11 seconds for the first half mile while under a tight hold by Husbands. When finally encouraged for some run, Remember the Time quickly drew away through the stretch to score an open-length victory completed in 1:35.50. Colonel Duke, who had finished third and second in his two prior starts at Gulfstream, closed from mid-pack to check in second, 3 1/4 lengths in front of first-time starter Flood Plan in third.
Remember the Time is out of Amuse, a multiple graded stakes-placed daughter of Medaglia d’Oro.
In his debut at Kentucky Downs, Remember the Time took the lead in the stretch before falling a length short of holding off Michael Maker-trained Merlin Monroan, who came right back to capture a turf allowance at Keeneland in his second start.
Friday’s 20-Cent Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $125,000
The 20-cent Rainbow 6 at Gulfstream Park went unsolved Sunday for the sixth racing day in a row following an Oct. 11 mandatory payout. The Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $125,000 when live racing action resumes Friday.
Friday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 5-10, featuring the $75,000 Our Dear Peggy, a mile turf stakes for 2-year-old fillies, in Race 6 and the $75,000 Cellars Shiraz, a 1 1/16-mile turf stakes for 3-year-old fillies, in Race 10.
The Our Dear Peggy attracted a full field of 12, including Nick Palmer-trained multiple-stakes winner Liberty Rings. The daughter of Awesome Slew captured the $125,000 Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies on turf in her second career start in May and two starts later she defeated state-bred fillies in the $100,000 Scandalous Act on the main track. Liberty Rings, who raced evenly on turf last time out in the Hollywood Beach, will be equipped with blinkers for the first time.
The Sunshine Meet’s leading trainer, Saffie Joseph Jr., who will be at Keeneland next weekend for the Breeders’ Cup, will be represented by three horses in the 10-horse Cellars Shiraz field at Gulfstream, Day to Day, Pure Eloquence and Little Georgie. Day to Day finished second in the John C. Harris (G3) at Santa Anita last time out.
In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
The 50-cent Late Pick 5 (Races 6-10) wagering started with a $64,318.86 carryover from Saturday. A total of $509,458 was wagered into the pool Sunday. The last race of the day was taken off the turf, making it an ‘all’ in the Rainbow 6 and Late Pick 5. There will be a Place Pick 8 carryover Friday of $20,153.44.
