HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $125,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager went unsolved Friday for the fourth racing day following a mandatory payout.
Saturday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 6-11, kicked off by a six-furlong maiden special weight sprint for 3-year-olds. Bobby Dibona-trained Irish Adieu, a son of Yaupon, has been installed as an 8-5 morning-line favorite after coming up short to finish third in his seven-furlong career debut. Arindel will unveil Jalapeno, a homebred daughter of Adios Charlie, and Awesome Mass, a multiple stakes-placed daughter of stakes winner Horah for Bailey.
In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. On mandatory payout days, the entire pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors holding tickets with the most winners in the six-race sequence.
Diego Herrera Notches Fifth Consecutive Multi-Win Racing Day
Diego Herrera continued to make a strong impression at Gulfstream Park since switching his tack from Southern California in late March by riding a pair of winners on Friday’s nine-race card. Friday was the 22-year-old jockey’s fifth consecutive multi-win racing day.
Herrera, who has won a total of 14 races during his five-card streak, visited the winner’s circle Friday aboard Velociraptor ($5.60) in Race 4 and No Other Like You ($5) in Race 5.
Herrera has closed within four wins of Royal Palm Meet leader Samy Camacho, who holds a 50-46 edge. Both jockeys have 10 mounts scheduled on Saturday’s 11-race program.
Note: Journeyman Jesus Rios rode three winners on Friday’s nine-race card, scoring aboard Imperia Blu ($5.40) in Race 2, Softly Dreaming ($15.40) in Race 6 and Indecisiveness ($9.40) in the Race 8 feature.
