Watch and Wager on Breeders’ Cup World Championships

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Unsolved for a seventh consecutive racing day Friday, the 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is estimated to reach $150,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

There will also be a Players Pick 8 three-day carryover of $37,029.32.

Post time for the first of 11 live races is noon. Fans can also watch and wager on Day 2 of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships from Keeneland in the Silks simulcast center, which opens its doors at 10 a.m.

Saturday’s Rainbow 6 sequence covers Races 6-11 and includes each of two $75,000 turf stakes – the one-mile Armed Forces for 2-year-olds going two turns in Race 7 and 1 1/16-mile Showing Up for 3-year-olds in Race 11.

After a pair of out-of-town stakes engagements, Heracles returns to Gulfstream for the Armed Forces nearly four months after springing a 12-1 upset going 7 ½ furlongs July 4 in his lone try over the local course. He cuts back after two tries at 1 1/16 miles including a troubled third in the Kitten’s Joy at Colonial Downs. Among the competition are Graham Motion-trained stablemates Sushi Party, a maiden winner second time out Sept. 10 on the Delaware Park turf, and Indian Pharoah, making his grass debut.

Motion will also send out 9-5 program favorite Turf Star in the Showing Up. The Calumet Farm homebred, making his ninth consecutive stakes start, gets some class relief after placing once in five graded attempts and winning the James Murphy at Laurel Park on the Preakness (G1) undercard. High Lateen makes his stakes debut riding a three-race win streak, while Trelawny goes for three in a row and stakes-placed Redland Rebels seeks a third win in four starts.

The Rainbow 6 last produced multiple mandatory payouts of $3,501.22 Oct. 11. In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Gulfstream’s $1 Players Place Pick 8 begins in Race 4, a claiming event for 3-year-olds and up going a one-turn mile on the main track. Introduced in July, the Players Place Pick 8 is player-friendly, retail-only wager offering a 15 percent takeout where bettors are tasked with selecting horses to finish either first or second in each of the day’s final eight races.

Once again Gulfstream partners with Santa Anita Park for the $1 Sunset Six and $1 Coast-to-Coast Pick 5 wagers. The Sunset Six starts with Races 9-11 at Gulfstream and concludes with Races 8-10 at Santa Anita. The Coast-to-Coast opens in Gulfstream’s Race 10 and continues with Race 5 at Santa Anita, Race 11 at Gulfstream and Races 6 and 8 at Santa Anita.

Santa Anita’s Race 8 is the $100,000 Goldikova (G3) for fillies and mares 3 and up going a two-turn mile on the grass. The narrow 3-1 program favorite from the rail is Miss Nightfall, who raced 15 times in her native England with two wins before capturing her North American debut at the distance Sept. 7 at Saratoga. Also entered are Grade 1 winner Ambaya, multiple Grade 2 winner May Day Ready and Peru-bred Grade 3 winner Princesa Moche.

Notes: Jockey Edwin Gonzalez and trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. teamed up for a pair of Friday wins, 9-year-old gelding Mish ($3.20) in Race 7 and Zeus’s Echo ($6) in Race 9. Gonzalez has two mounts on today’s Breeders’ Cup program at Keeneland, both for Joseph – Kerry’s Kiss in the Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) and Forged Steel in the Dirt Mile (G1) … Jockey Marcos Meneses visited the winner’s circle twice, aboard Jenlovestoshop ($7) in Race 1 and Hammy ($7.40) in Race 6, the $75,000 Our Dear Peggy for 2-year-old fillies on the grass … Jockey Diego Herrera also doubled, with Daunting ($6) in Race 3 and Tell Me Some Lies ($7.60) in Race 8.
