Undefeated Storm’s Wake Tops Deep Our Dear Peggy Field
Odds-On Favorite Gabaldon Upset by Stablemate Itza Boss

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $125,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager went unsolved Friday for the fourth racing day following a mandatory payout.

Saturday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 6-11, featuring the $75,000 Our Dear Peggy in Race 9. Brian Lynch-trained Storm’s Wake, the 5-2 morning-line favorite in a field of 11 2-year-old fillies, will seek to remain undefeated in three starts in the mile turf stakes. The daughter of Oscar Performance closed from well off the pace to win her 5 ½-furlong debut over the Ellis Park turf course and a mile turf allowance at Churchill Downs.

Miss Picky, a daughter of Uncle Mo trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher, drops from an off-the-board finish in the Miss Grillo (G2) at Saratoga, where she graduated by four lengths in her previous start. Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. is represented in the field by Dandona, a $1,050,000 OBS April purchase coming off a debut victory, and Spirit Doll, who will make her turf debut after finishing off the board in the Spinaway (G1) at Saratoga.

The Rainbow 6 carryover pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. On mandatory-payout days, the entire Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is paid out to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the wager’s six-race sequence.

Odds-On Favorite Gabaldon Upset by Stablemate Itza Boss

Jose D’Angelo-trained Gabaldon, a graded-stakes-placed gelding who went to post for Friday’s finale as the 4-5 favorite, was upset by stablemate Itza Boss at Gulfstream Park.

Gabaldon, who set swift quarter-mile fractions of 21.26 and 43.35 seconds under Emisael Jaramillo, appeared on his way to victory in deep stretch before D’Angelo-trained Itza Boss staged a furious drive in the middle of the turf course to prevail in a photo finish in the five-furlong optional claiming allowance.

Itza Boss ($15.60), who completed the five furlongs in 54.70 seconds under Leonel Reyes, was coming off a layoff of nearly a year since the son of Valiant Minister graduated in his fourth career start Nov. 4 at Gulfstream.

Gabaldon made an auspicious debut in the 2024 Royal Palm Juvenile at Gulfstream, scoring by 1 ¼ lengths after setting the pace under pressure in the five-furlong turf stakes. The victory earned him a fees-paid berth in one of six stakes at Royal Ascot, where he would finish a game second in the Windsor Castle before going to the sidelines for the rest of the year.

The Florida-bred gelding returned March 22 to finish third in the Texas Glitter before fading to fifth after getting caught in an early duel in the Aug. 10 Mahony (G3) at Saratoga.

In Friday’s Race 3, trainer Diane Morici’s Ms. Bucchero ($6.80) took control from the start continued on to dominate the six-furlong optional claiming allowance for fillies and mares that featured a meeting of 2024 FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes rivals Win N Your In and R Morning Brew.

Ridden by Leonel Reyes, Ms. Bucchero set swift fractions of 21.84 and 44.87 seconds for the first half mile on her way to a final clocking of 1:10.25. The 5-year-old daughter of Bucchero, who was making her first start at Gulfstream after campaigning primarily in the Mid-Atlantic, won her ninth race in 18 starts. The multiple-stakes winner finished 2 ¾ lengths ahead of Rumours Have It, who finished a neck in front of R Morning Brew, who challenged the winner along the backstretch. Win N Your In, the 9-5 favorite, made a mild rally to finish fourth. R Morning Brew won the FSS Desert Vixen before Win N Your In turned the tables in the FSS Susan’s Girl.
