HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $150,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager went unsolved Friday for the seventh racing day following a mandatory payout.
A mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be held Sunday, when the jackpot pool is expected to exceed $1.5 million if not hit on Saturday.
Saturday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 5-10, headlined by the $75,000 Bear’s Den, a mile stakes for 3-year-olds in Race 8 that marks the return of turf stakes action following a month break.
Jose D’Angelo-trained Iron Hand will seek to win his fifth straight race while making his turf debut in the Bear’s Den. The son of Valiant Minister has won four in a row on Tapeta. Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Forged Steel, twice stakes-placed on turf before finishing third in the Carry Back on the main track, is the 7-5 morning-line favorite.
In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
The Bear’s Den will also be the middle leg of the $3 Tropical Turf Pick 3, which will also include Race 4, a five-furlong maiden special weight for 2-year-olds, and Race 11, a 1 1/16-mile $17,500 maiden claimer for 3-year-olds and up.
The Tropical Turf Pick 3, a $3 base wager that requires bettors to pick the winners of three designated turf races on a card, made a return Friday following a month break. The No. Princess Bro ($51.20) in Race 2, Always Adriana ($11.20) in Race 5, and Private Thoughts ($9.40) in Race 8 produced a winning 8-7-5 ticket worth $2,406.30.
