HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – K. Johnston Racing, Michael and Jules Iavarone and Hopeless Stables’ undefeated multiple stakes-winning 2-year-old Sum of Success, briefly under Breeders’ Cup consideration, will instead stay home for his next start.
Based at Gulfstream Park with trainer Bobby Dibona, Sum of Success is being pointed to either the $100,000 Juvenile Sprint going six furlongs Nov. 14 or the $200,000 Aventura at a one-turn mile Nov. 28, also for 2-year-olds, on opening weekend of the 2026-2027 Championship Meet.
“It’ll be one of the two,” Dibona said.
After Sum of Success ran his record to 3-0 with a second consecutive stakes win Sept. 5 in the seven-furlong Express Tour for Florida-breds, the connections had considered sending him to Keeneland for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) Oct. 30, which would have marked his grass debut. A minor illness exiting the race changed their plans.
“He got a little sick,” Dibona said. “He spiked a fever and his bloodwork got crazy, so he missed a couple weeks of training.”
Sum of Success returned to the work tab Saturday at Gulfstream, breezing a half-mile in 49.44 seconds over a main track rated good. It was his first timed move since Aug. 30, a week before the Express Tour.
“I just thought he did what he was supposed to do,” Dibona said. “We just went easy with him, just to get him back going. He went a half in 49 [seconds], which is what I wanted, and he galloped out well. It was pretty good.”
Sum of Success, a $165,000 son of Grade 1-winning sprinter Win Win Win, debuted July 20 at Gulfstream before cruising in back-to-back state-bred stakes starting with the Aug. 10 In Summation. His three wins, all in front-running fashion, have come by 24 ¼ combined lengths.
$3M Yearling Vibe Works Saturday for Mr. Jordan Handicap
Also on Saturday’s Gulfstream work tab was Repole Stable, West Point Thoroughbreds, CJ Stables, Woodford Racing, Lane’s End and Patrick McGee’s 4-year-old Vibe, who breezed four furlongs in 50.85 seconds over the main track.
Trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher, Vibe graduated second time out in an April 2025 maiden event then went unraced until an optional claiming allowance triumph March 14, both at Gulfstream. Most recently, the $3 million yearling ran seventh in the Stable Recovery Sept. 19 at Parx.
Vibe drew Post 7 in a field of 10 for the $60,000 Mr. Jordan overnight handicap Oct. 24 at Gulfstream. Among his rivals in the one-turn mile race for 3-year-olds and up are stakes winners Chrome Ghost, To the Eastside and Pure Class and stakes-placed Indecisiveness, Fede, El Principito, Fiveeyesonskystars and Awesome Train.
Sunday’s Rainbow 6 Sequence Features Streaking Rosie’s Roadster
The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved Saturday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager’s jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $75,000 Sunday on the third racing day following last Sunday’s mandatory payout.
Sunday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9, featuring Gary Jackson-trained Rosie’s Roadster’s bid for a third-straight victory in Race 7, a six-furlong optional claiming allowance for 2-year-old fillies. The daughter of 2019 Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Roadster graduated in a state-bred maiden in her second career start before scoring an impressive 11 1/2-length victory in a 5 1/2-furlong optional claimer. Miguel Vaquez has the return call.
In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
Gulfstream’s Race 7; Race 8, a six-furlong optional claiming allowance for fillies and mares; and Race 9, a mile $17,500 claimer for 3-year-olds and up scheduled for turf, will open Sunday’s Sunset Six sequence that will be closed out by Races 7, 8 and 9 at Santa Anita.
Gulfstream’s Race 8 kicks off Sunday’s 1/ST Coast-To-Coast Pick 5 sequence, followed by Santa Anita’s Race 2 and Gulfstream’s Race 9. Santa Anita’s Race 4 and Race 5 will close out the sequence.
The Sunset Six and the Coast-To-Coast Pick 5 are both retail-only, player-friendly wagers with a $1 base and a 15 percent takeout.
Notes: Jockey Leonel Reyes rode three winners Saturday, Steelin Bases ($10.80) in Race 3, So Icy ($4.60) in Race 8 and Dream Dancer ($4) in Race 10 … So Icy and Dream Dancer are both trained by Jose D’Angelo, who completed his own hat trick with Majestic Ruler ($9.40) in Race 1 … Jockey Samy Camacho won twice, aboard Pike ($7.80) in Race 4 and World Traveler ($6.60) in Race 7 … Both World Traveler and Race 5 winner Finest Gamble ($15.60) are trained by Victor Barboza Jr.
