HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The Sunset Six, a $1 minimum wager linking the last three races at Gulfstream and the last three races at Santa Anita, makes its debut Friday.

Available to retail customers only, the Sunset Six has a low 15 percent takeout and will be offered every day both Gulfstream and Santa Anita are running.

The Sunset Six gets under way Friday with Race 7 at Gulfstream, a six-furlong sprint for non-winners-of-two $8000 claiming fillies and mares. Victor Barboza Jr.-trained Paddy’s Gift, an impressive winner in $12,500 maiden claimer dropping in claiming price, is favored at 9-5 on the morning line in a field of nine. Rodrick Rodriquez-trained Five Eyes Onmichel, a steady-running filly who has been close often but winless in eight starts since breaking her maiden, is rated second at 2-1.

The $75,000 Hallandale Beach, a one-turn mile stakes for 2-year-old fillies, has been carded as Gulfstream’s Race 8 feature. Ramon Minguet-trained Willow Case and Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Tessellate, who ran 1-2 in the recent six-furlong Sharp Susan, return in the Hallandale Beach, but Armando De La Cera-trained maiden-breaker Vita Mia is the 9-5 morning-line favorite in a field of six.

Gulfstream’s third leg of the Sunset Six sequence brings together a field of eight juveniles for Race 9, a mile $25,000 maiden claimer on turf that many bettors may view as a ‘spread’ leg. Cadenced, the 9-5 morning-line favorite who is trained by Hall of Famer Mark Casse, drops in claiming price off an improved effort. Nicholas Palmer-trained Kaholo will be equipped with blinkers after showing good speed before fading in his debut at the maiden special weight level.

Friday’s Sunset Six sequence continues in Santa Anita’s Race 7, a six-furlong optional claiming allowance for California-bred-or-sired fillies and mares on turf. Jeff Mullins-trained Lady Gregory, who has never been worse than third in her last six starts at this level, is a 3-2 morning-line favorite in a field of nine (plus an also-eligible) while racing under a $20,000 claiming tag.

Santa Anita’s Race 8, a mile $10,000 claiming event that drew a field of eight 3-year-olds and up, likely will prove more of a challenge for Sunset Six handicappers. Michael McCarthy-trained Mystic Flyer, who drops to a career-low claiming level while making his first start since March, 2024, is the 2-1 morning-line favorite who produced a ‘bullet’ five-furlong workout in preparation for his return.

Sunset Six action will wrap up in Santa Anita’s Race 9, a mile $50,000 maiden claimer for fillies and mare that drew a field of eight. Phil D’Amato-trained Rehearsal, an Irish-bred filly who finished second at Friday’s level in her last two starts, is the 3-2 morning-line favorite. Richard Baltas-trained Infinity Dream, who closed to finish second in a five-furlong $50,000 maiden claimer on turf, stretches out while making her first start without blinkers.

In the event that there are no tickets sold with all six winners, there will be a carryover with no consolation payouts.

The Coast-to-Coast Pick 5, a $1 minimum wager with a sequence including races at Gulfstream and Santa Anita, returns Friday.

Friday’s sequence begins with Race 8 at Gulfstream, the $75,000 Hallandale Beach, followed by Race 3 at Santa Anita, Race 9 at Gulfstream, Race 5 at Santa Anita and Race 7 at Santa Anita.

Like the Sunset Six, the Coast-to-Coast Pick 5 has a low 15-percent takeout. If there are no tickets sold with all five winners, there will be a carryover with no consolation payout.

Friday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $100,000

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $100,000 Friday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for three racing days following a mandatory payout.

The Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9, featuring the $75,000 Hallandale Beach, a mile stakes for 2-year-old fillies, in Race 8.

In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. On mandatory payout days, the entire pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the popular wager’s six-race sequence.

White Abarrio Preps for BC Dirt Mile with ‘Bullet’ Breeze

C2 Racing Stable LLC, Gary Barber and La Milagrosa Stable LLC’s White Abarrio began preparations for a planned start in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) with an easy ‘bullet’ breeze Thursday at Gulfstream Park.

The 6-year-old son of Race Day stretched his legs during a three-furlong breeze in 33.73 seconds (1/4) while working for the first time since finishing fourth in the Aug. 31 Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) at Saratoga.

The Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained multiple Grade 1 stakes winner, who began his 2025 campaign with victories in the $3 million Pegasus World Cup (G1) and Ghostzapper (G3) at Gulfstream, is coming off a trio of fourth-place finishes in the Met Mile (G1), Whitney (G1) and Jockey Club Gold Cup at Saratoga.

White Abarrio, the winner of the 2022 Curlin Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream, captured the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Santa Anita in 2023. The plan this year is to bypass the Classic in favor of the Dirt Mile at Del Mar Nov. 1.
