Maiden Special Weights on Dirt, Tapeta Highlight Nine-Race Program

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Unsolved for nine consecutive racing days, the 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is estimated to reach $175,000 when the fall Sunshine Meet resumes Friday at Gulfstream Park.

Post time for the first of nine races is 12:20 p.m.

The Rainbow 6 last produced multiple mandatory payouts of $3,501.22 Oct. 11. Friday’s sequence spans Races 4-9, opening with a maiden special weight for 3-year-olds and up going a mile and 70 yards on the all-weather Tapeta course.

Trained and co-owned by Jose D’Angelo, Pax Mundi is the 7-5 program favorite making his eighth start and first on synthetic after a trio of thirds in three tries on dirt and the last four against older horses on turf. D’Angelo also entered Parnassus, beaten a neck Oct. 2, while Heather Smullen sends out Coristine following a third after leading the way Sept. 12 – both at the course and distance.

Race 7 is a maiden special weight for fillies and mares 3 and up sprinting six furlongs on the main track that attracted a field of nine including a pair of well-bred 3-year-olds from Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher – Just a Girl and Wild Night.

Michael Tabor’s Just a Girl, by 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify, cuts back for her second career start following a neck loss after setting the pace in her Sept. 7 debut at Saratoga going seven furlongs. Bass Stables’ Wild Night, a Florida-bred daughter of Liam’s Map that fetched $350,000 as a 2024 yearling, debuts off 13 timed works starting in late July, the last three at Gulfstream.

e Five Racing Thoroughbreds and Madaket Stables’ Once and Floral is set to launch her sophomore season for Sunshine Meet leading trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. By three-time Grade 1-winning multimillionaire McKinzie, she hasn’t run since finishing second by a neck as the favorite last Nov. 30, her second start, over a sloppy and sealed track at Friday’s distance.

In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Gulfstream will offer 11 races on Saturday including a pair of $60,000 overnight handicaps on the Tapeta – the one-mile, 70-yard Time Passage for fillies and mares 3 and up featuring the return of 12-time winner Ashima, and the 5 ½-furlong Carotari for 3-year-olds and up led by stakes winners Full Disclosure, Mattingly, Poulin in O T and Diciassette.

Ten races are on tap for Sunday with the feature coming in Race 8, an optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up at one mile and 70 yards on the Tapeta, where Hands of Time chases a fourth consecutive win and third in five tries at the course and distance. Longbranch Lou, unraced since Aug. 30, is 6-for-12 lifetime on synthetic.

With nine racing days left in the Sunshine Meet, which runs through Nov. 22, Joseph holds a 25-22 lead over D’Angelo in the trainer standings followed by Victor Barboza Jr. (19), Carlos David (15) and David Fawkes, who is 11-for-31 (35 percent).

Leonel Reyes tops all jockeys with 37 wins, leading 2026 Royal Palm Meet winner Diego Herrera (29) with Samy Camacho (25), Miguel Vasquez (25) and Edwin Gonzalez (22) close behind. Reyes ($1.16 million) and Joseph ($1.018 million) are also tops in purse earnings.

Gulfstream’s 2026-2027 Championship Meet, the premier winter stand in the U.S., opens Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26.
