HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 will have an estimated pool of $200,000 when live racing returns to Gulfstream Park Thursday, Jan. 15.
First race post for the 10-race program Thursday is 12:20 ET. The Rainbow 6, which spans races 5-10, begins at approximately 2:21 ET.
The Rainbow 6 sequence begins with a $50,000 maiden optional claimer at five furlongs on the turf for 3-year-old fillies. The competitive field of 10 includes Undercover Agent, a $385,000 daughter of Omaha Beach who draws the rail for trainer Mark Casse and jockey John Velazquez and Sweet Ember, a $380,000 daughter of Mitole trained by Eddie Plesa Jr., and ridden by Jose Morelos. Undercover Agent makes her first start since running third at Woodbine in October, while Sweet Ember was second in her only previous start.
After claiming event on the main track in Race 6 the seventh race drew a field of seven fillies and mares in an $87,000 allowance optional claimer at a mile on the main track. The race includes Sarawak Rim, seventh in her only previous start in the U.S. in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) Nov. 1 at Del Mar.
Sarawak Rim also has the distinction of being the last horse saddled by retired trainer Ignacio Correas, who said before the Breeders’ Cup, “She’s going to be really good next year, but it will be for somebody else.” George Arnold will saddle the 5-year-old mare and Edgard Zayas is named to ride.
The race also includes Anna’s Promise, second in the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) and fifth in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) last year, and Just Basking, beaten a length in the 2024 Alabama (G1).
Two of the last three races in the sequence are on the turf, including Race 10, a mile event for $17,500 maidens.
In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
