Yates Juveniles Pointing to Second Leg of Florida Sire Series

20-Cent Rainbow 6 Solved for $50,554 Jackpot Payout Sunday

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Stakes-winning colt Fourth and Central and stakes-placed filly Finding Strength continue to train forwardly ahead of planned starts in the second legs of the Florida Sire Series juvenile stakes at Gulfstream Park.

Shadybrook Farm Inc.’s Fourth and Central, a son of Cajun Breeze bred and owned by trainer Michael Yates, was a front-running 10-1 upset winner of the six-furlong FSS Dr. Fager Sept. 6, drawing away by 1 ¾ lengths in 1:11.18.

“I thought it was a very good race for him. He was on the outside and kind of got to dictate the race,” Yates said between races Sunday. “I feel like he’s going to move forward.”

Earlier in the day LNJ Foxwoods and Church Street Stable’s Finding Strength, a Khozan filly also trained by Yates, dueled with favored Lennilu from the start and fell a nose short in the six-furlong FSS Desert Vixen, her stakes debut. Already a stakes winner, Lennilu came back to win the Leinster Hollywood Beach Sept. 27 and is being pointed to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1) Oct. 31.

“She ran really hard. Being down on the inside, I kind of felt like he had to use her a little more early on, and she kind of did more on her own than I expected,” Yates said. “She just lost the bob.”

Fourth and Central (:49.91) and Finding Strength (:49.44) have breezed once since their last race, each going four furlongs Sept. 24 over Gulfstream’s main track. Yates anticipates them returning to the work tab in the coming days.

“We plan to work them this week,” he said. “They’re galloping well. We’re just kind of biding our time,” Yates said. “We’ve got two fit horses that are training well and eating good. We’re keeping our fingers crossed.”

The FSS series continues Oct. 18 at Gulfstream with the $150,000 Affirmed for 2-year-olds and $150,000 Susan’s Girl for 2-year-old fillies, each sprinting seven furlongs. Entries will be taken and post positions drawn Saturday, Oct. 11.

“We’re going on to the seven-eighths,” Yates said. “That’s our intention.”

Rainbow 6 Solved for $50,554 Jackpot Payout Sunday

For the second time in three racing days, the 20-cent Rainbow 6 was solved Sunday at Gulfstream Park, returning a $50,554.92 jackpot payout.

Mimi Willy ($18.80) rallied up the rail to capture the Race 10 finale and complete the winning 3-6-74-4-1 combination. Other winners in the sequence were Drum Roll ($7.60) in Race 5, Yamal ($12) in Race 6, Star of the Beast ($11.60) in Race 7, Outta Money ($11.40) in Race 8 and Greenfield Cougar ($10.20) in Race 9.

The popular multi-race wager was solved for a $143,083.80 jackpot payout Friday.

In the Rainbow 6, the jackpot pool is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

A mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 12. On mandatory payout days, the entire Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is disbursed to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the six-race sequence.

The Rainbow 6 begins anew Friday spanning Races 4-9. The Race 5 feature is a maiden special weight for 2-year-old fillies scheduled for five furlongs on the grass where five of the eight entrants are first-time starters. Lucky Win Coco, by Grade 2 winner Win Win Win, has respectively run second and third in two prior starts, one each on turf and the all-weather Tapeta.

Notes: Jockey Edwin Gonzalez notched back-to-back wins Sunday aboard Meet Me in the Air ($3.60) in Race 4 and Drum Roll ($7.60) in Race 5 … Jockey Jose Morelos also turned the track on Star of the Beast ($11.60) in Race 7 and Outta Money ($11.40) in Race 8.
